I believe he replaced Alice Cooper. Its a smart move on Callaway's behalf to have one of the most popular Pop musicians out there promoting the company
I really gotta say....it's funny that considering all the knocks on TM for paying so many pros to play their gear and get their club count up....JT used to play at least some TM sticks (r7TP irons, not sure what else he had) by his own preference, but now gets paid to play Callaway gear. Irony at it's best.
I'm not sure I understand the issue here. What's wrong with using a popular person with a squiky clean imagine to expand your productline or interest in the game itself? He (JT) sponsors his own tournement owns his own course and has a lower index then most of the people on this board. He is very respectful of the heritage, integrity, and image of the game.
If Callaway came to me and said play these and we'll give you "x" I wouldn't even think twice. That's TMs fault for not capitalizing on an opportunity. Once JT appeared on the cover of Golf Digest holding TM sticks they should have been all over it.

I agree 100%.
On a side note: I'll bet Sir Charles is getting paid or getting free equipment to use all Nike stuff on the Haney Project.
I believe Charles was part of the Nike family from his B-Ball days and has a pretty high Q rating from his TNT analyst job(and one of the most recognizable golf swings on the planet) so it wouldn't surprise me that Nike would want to keep him "in family"
Guys these Celebs do not get paid to be on a Staff deal, they just get product the same way a Golf pro would that is on staff with Callaway. They get free schwag, thats it.
I think that Timberlake has the potential, after several more years, to become a golf/entertainment icon for today, much like Bing Crosby or Bob Hope of the past. He has his own tournament, is highly visible at pro-ams, and is a spokesperson for golf and its history/rules, at least int he interviews I have seen in GD and other magazines. He scores int he low single digits handicap wise (verified, not inflated).
Golf has room for an entertainment-golf crossover like this, a guy who is somewhat serious about the game. It would be a welcome relief from the George Lopez/Ray Romano/Bill Murray routine.
I wouldn't call him an icon outside of the music/fashion/entertainment space, but ask any guy to hate on him. They CAN'T. JT is too damn legit in what he does to be made fun of or criticized without you just ending up looking like the insecure hater. Golf needs some younger and newer energy because it still has not shed it's fogey old uptight image.

I'm not accusing JT of being disrespectful of the game or promoting a bad image. I just found it humorous Callaway labeled him a golf "Icon" and put him in the same category as professional legends like Arnold Palmer and Annika Sorenstam when he's nothing but a popular celebrity with a decent handicap.

I am not a JT fan(just not my kind of music) but golf in general needs to embrace the younger generation to be able to keep it's head above water through the tougher
times. He seems very respectful of the game and does have a lot of passion for for it,overall it is good too have a person with this much mass appeal promoting our sport.
I think that Ben Hogan,Bobby Jones,Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer are gods, but they are going to bring very little fresh money too the game, they have done their part, many times over.
We need fresh faces as long as their good too and for the game! With that said JT is no Icon. IMHO Todd

bingo. he is a throwback, as well as a great ambassador for the sport. golf is lucky to have him.

Yeah I agree, maybe some fans will see him playing golf and go "JT plays that sport it must be cool" and then develop their own love for the game.
i don't care if someone hates everything about Justin Timberlake; to each his own. But if they deny his positive effect on, or contributions to golf, they're clueless.
