What's up guys? Headed to Vegas the end of June. We're staying at The Wynn and I wanted to play a little golf while I'm out there. No way I'm dropping 5 bills to play at Wynn, so I'm looking for some suggestions for something not too far away from the strip, and something not too expensive. This will be the first time I've played in Vegas, we're usually in town for the fights. I've heard Desert Pines is decent but I'm not sure. Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

The question you will be asked is what you mean by "not too expensive". I haven't played Desert Pines; however, it is north of 95/515 about 15 minutes from Wynn. Will you have a rental car? If you do, then you can get to nice courses like Boulder Creek (about 25 minutes from Wynn), Bear's Best, Revere, Painted Desert, Silverstone (a little bit of a drive), Paiute (further north than Silverstone but very nice), if you want the best then you want to go to Mesquite (1 hour north of Vegas) and play Wolf Creek which is worth every penny.

One bit of advice, do not go to Black Mountain. I just played there on Saturday and it has become a dog track. The driving range was nothing more than dead grass with sand on it, greens are a joke and you will hate it. It was a nice course 2 years ago and everyone in our tour was disgusted by it.

I'd be willing to pay 250 or less.. 500 at wynn is just too rough... I probably won't have a car, it will be a taxi trip..

I played Black Mountain around this time last year and it wasn't to bad. Must have fell of the map sometime between now and then. I guess it is where all the locals used to play now lol.

You're coming at the right time when the rates start to drop, so your best bet is to go to Bali Hai which is on the strip just south of Mandalay Bay. Very nice course and the rates that time of year are $229 or less. They provide a forecaddie which is another $25-30 (suggested).

Bali Hai is a waste of $$, but Desert Pines is a nice lil track for a decent price.  Bears Best is a MUST play and my personal favorite course in Vegas.  Unless you plan on playing at the crack of dawn, you will find June is Vegas NOT conducive to a comfortable golfing experience.    If you go this month, it would be much more comfortable plus you get some March Madness madness. If Bali Hai was cheaper, I would recommend it.  Rio Secco is nice but sometimes they raise the fees to crazy levels.  Golfinnova suggested some other good courses at decent prices.  Just make SURE that you play Bears Best atleast once.  Oh and RedRock Arroyo is reasonably priced as well.  I do not make a Vegas golf trip without playing there.  Im attaching two Bears Best pics.
