It's definitely long.. but I'm still not 100%.  My scores, however, are close to in line with my "norm" ;)  Go figure.

Comeback tour continued last week at Tehama and Monterey Peninsula CC.

Wife and I decided to book a sort of last minute vacation for my first Father's Day and also somewhere we could drive to that would be super relaxing - MPCC was a nice cherry on top  :)

If you follow me on Instagram you've seen these pics already, but if not.. here's what it looked like.  I'll get to the WITB part after the pics.

One of my favorite views in golf:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

So.. now for the WITB stuff.

The tour sauced Epic GBB with PM Diamana Proto is just nasty, it looks and sounds incredible and it does go pretty far.  One of my buddies up in Monterey had a Trackman, and I was hesitant to get on it with my recovering wrist.. my best numbers with the Epic were 118.5 SS, 176BS, 2250 spin, 11.8LA, surprisingly my swing numbers were really good and I'm making what I feel like is a 80% swing or less and choked up on my clubs.  So, I'm happy with my driver for the most part, even though I'd say my game is at about 70%.

My irons are a different story, I'm almost scared to hit anything over a 7 iron.  My hand is throbbing after usually 12 holes to where I'm bailing out completely if I feel like it might be in an awkward position at impact.  Whether or not it is in a bad position, I just get that sensation and bail out, sometimes let go of the club and one hand follow through type of stuff.

So.. I've decided I'm going graphite in my irons until my hand and wrist gets back to full strength.  The X7 just feels like I'm swinging a crowbar.. and I need something a little more user friendly on my joints and absorb more shock.  I'm not sure what I'm getting yet or what heads I'm going to put them in, but it's definitely happening.  A lighter steel shaft with Sensicores might also be in the picture.. or I have some DG AMT's I could put Sensicores into.

I have my 716 combo set or I could re-build the Honma's, or maybe the 770's.  Either way, the Callaway driver is staying, the 3 wood is hit or miss, but might need to get that fixed up too, don't like the GD TP in it, going to get the Atmos in there.

It was incredible.. we were there from Tuesday-Sunday.  We stayed at a house near the beach in Carmel by the Sea, every morning we walked into town to get breakfast at our favorite spot and then went straight to the beach with our son.  One day golf at MPCC and dinner there, and then another at Tehama and lunch there.  Got a little golf in, but more importantly a lot of family time  :)  When did you play MPCC?  I played in the Friday skins game which was cool.

Didn't play MPCC! I was in LA Fri-Sun, played Bel Air, Torrey South, then we played rustic canyon with dan on Sunday, and I popped up to Monterey to play Pebble and Spyglass. I pretty much had the perfect day at Pebble and they just had the Jim Nantz tournament so it was in great shape, absolutely amazing.

California golf is amazing! I'll be back soon, we would have played Riv on the day I played Torrey but they just punched the greens so the member we were going to play with didn't want to play there (I would have played it on punched greens lol), still a great week!

Quite the rotation!  Swap out Rustic Canyon for Riv and you've got a bucket list trip!  You definitely need to get out to MPCC if you can next time you're up there.  You can see quite a bit of the Shore Course from #4 (I think) on Spy.  From one of the holes in the picture above you can see Spyglass, #1 on Cypress and the bunker on 16 at Cypress in the distance, really cool stuff.  With all the amenities and how insanely pure the Shore and Dunes courses are, I'd say MPCC is one of my favorite places, if not my favorite place all things considered (not just golf).

Yeah, they mentioned they were punching Riv when I was out there a few weeks ago and they said the greens were longer and slower than normal, they were still running 11.5-12 lol and really pure.  MPCC's greens were the best I've played all year, probably 12-12.5 and very smooth.

I'm in a similar situation as you with the hands. I had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands last July. Wasn't able to swing a club until November and now that golf season is here in MN, I've been really feeling it in my hands. Can't get the face on my driver squared up, hands hurting, etc. Going to change grips to the Lamkin Justin Rose's and going to throw some Sensi Core's in my irons to absorb the shock. Hoping that does the trick or else I'll be getting on the graphite bus too.

Being injured, I've been down the sensicore and graphite road the past 10 months....i put sensicores in all the modus and nippon shafts.  my advice, just go graphite.  I just went steelfiber.  I tried the 110x and 125x.  You could probably hardstep the 110x and tip the 125x in the wedges...or just 125x all the way through... i actually really like the graphite, you just need to get the right head and shaft combo and they are great.  It's so much better on the joints than steel, even with sensicore.

I have Steelfiber i110s in my ping I-200 irons. I love them. Super feeling. I didn't have much issue with vibration on steel but these do feel much better and appear to have a lot less of a harsh feel coming from PX 6.0. Aerotech Steelfiber are stiff to flex from what I understand.

My pro also put them in his. He's about 6'5" with 120ss. He kills the ball. I believe he went i110x hardstepped because he has them 2" long. Loves em.
I change too much to list it. Working on that...

In all seriousness anything you go to from X7's will feel better in terms of vibration management.  Steel fibers seem to be the only accepted "graphite" iron shaft on tour so it makes sense to start there.  Sensicore inserts can also help a lot.  Hope the hand continues to get better for ya but I know your time off has been a lot of QT with the family which is even better.

Also your trip looked amazing you've got a good wife ;)

Thanks man, I have 12 rounds in this year compared to 12 rounds per month  :)  The hand is just sore now, not from the scar or anything, just all the surrounding muscles/ligaments that are weak and not used to the impact and motion from golf and to the point where I'm scared to hit anything higher than a 7 iron lol!  I think I am going to go the graphite shaft route, or a lightweight steel shaft with Sensicores.  When I was up north my friend had his Trackman out on the range, I was apprehensive to get on it, but thought it would be interesting to see what my numbers were with my "new" swing.  I was pretty impressed, the Epic/Diamana got great numbers all things considered and my speed is close to what it was.  Just need to work on the endurance and getting through my round without my hand fatiguing as much.

I have my eye on some Fuji Pro95 protos (like what was in Koepka's 3 iron) and Steelfibers, also a lighter steel, maybe Nippon with Sensicore.  I don't want to dump too much $$ into this since it's more than likely not going to be a long term setup.

Sensicores add weight and have been known to rust out the inside of shafts b/c they hold moisture. I much prefer the prosofts inserts. Super cheap and very simple to install. I have them in all my steel shafts and they help a ton.

Thanks for the feedback guys!  Going to weigh out my options, but 100% making a change as soon as possible.  Debating on which heads to put the shafts in, choices now are Honmas, 716 CB/MB, or TM 750.  Or buy something else.. ugh.

Just get a z765/965 combo with some steel fiber or recoil 125 proto made up. Nothing pricey haha. I remember messing up my wrist between the gym basketball work and swinging with px shafts on a every other day occurrence. Pro soft is the way to go for trial in steel shafts and very low cost. I will check to see if I have the install tool laying around and can send it your way if you want to just buy the inserts themselves

Pure ( or anyone else for that matter) if you want some inserts Im doing an order. The shipping is more than the inserts so i am going to order a bunch. They are, get this, .46 a piece! I already have the installation tool. Im pretty sure it would not be hard to come up with a way to insert them without it,

Thanks for the gesture, I think I'm going all in with graphite, lol!  But I might have you get me some for when I heal up and put them in my steel shafted clubs.

Have you hit the MG wedges? I have them and they are pretty good but i am actually thinking of going SM6 and replacing the PW with the 46 Vokey. The 770's are just a little tall in the heel area for my eye. 9 iron isnt bad and once you get to the 8 i dont notice it anymore.

That's a pretty solid setup right there.  If I were you I would build another set with graphite and not take apart my gamer set for when I heal up. The TM 750's are nice can't go wrong.  Mizuno JPX 900 Tour's are filthy as well I would highly suggest you look at those as well.

I have a feeling you will love the 750's. Been in my bag for months and not going anywhere for a long time.
Forgive me for not reading back far enough but what TM ball are you playing? I keep giving he TP5&X a chance.
