Who is/are "critical golf"? Should their reviews and ratings be considered as gospel? The appeal of a particular device to a certain individual will depend on a number of factors. No one device is "perfect" for everyone. In one of their reviews, one of the things they were most critical about I see as a benefit. Go figure. :)

I agree with your general comment, but in this case, I don't think many people will want distance errors or the ability to pay fees for the same service others provide for free.

Yep - you don't have to necessarily agree with their reviews, but it's nice to have a lot of the data in the same place. This forum is fantastic, but you have to invest a fair amount of time in searching through the posts.

I like how the Critical Golf guys check each device against a list of 100 courses to see how many are covered (it's buried in one of the "How We Test" sections - http://criticalgolf.com/?page_id=1156). The Swami didn't fare so well there.

Anyway, nice to know that the site is there - more information is always better than less. LOL - I guess I would say the same thing about how much info a device provides too!

One real intriguing thing about the SWAMI is teh inclusion of a DOck into some fo the new IZZO bags. 2 carry bags and one cart bag have a molded "Dock" specifically designed for the SWAMI on board.

Just a nit to pick with the course availability: nearly none of my local courses were available when I first got this unit. Within a week every single one was in. I simply filled out a brief request form online for each one I wanted added and they had them done literally within a couple of days.

As for distance accuracy I compared it to the Greenfinder GPS app on my Blackberry during rounds on different courses and it's always been within a yard of having the same distances. Also have to bear in mind a civilian GPS has an error estimate of +/- 3 yards or so. People who labor under the impression they have precise enough distance control for that to matter probably should get a laser.

Been happy with my Swami for some time, now.

ETA: in case you care, I did a review of this unit when I first received it:
