white socks a must - no black shoes?

I rarely wear shorts, mostly khaki pants. I am looking to buy new golf shoes and I don't know if I should get all black, all white, or they do have a black and white color hybrid golf shoe. If I can't wear white socks with black shoes, then I will either go with the all white shoe or the hybrid shoe.
I was thinking the black shoe wouldn't show as much dirt and would stay nice looking longer than a white shoe.
Thanks,
paul

Just wear what you want. Who cares as long as its comfortable and your content with it. Black shoes will look better for longer though. Once dirt gets into white thread its a real pain to get out without bleaching.

The white sock with black shoe look never goes out of style at MJ's Neverland

did you really come on here to see if you can wear white socks with black shoes?
but to try to answer your question - maybe black and white saddles or brown and white saddles or all white shoes will look best with white socks when you wear shorts, pants shouldnt matter

Shorts - White shoes, white socks
Pants
Black belt, black shoes, black socks
White Belt, white shoes, white Socks
And in theory
Brown belt, brown shoes, brown socks.

If I am wearing shorts, I usually wear white socks with white shoes and black socks with black shoes. But if I bring the wrong shoes or sox to the course I dont think that it really matters.
Just dont wear tube sox with shorts, it looks like you are going to play basketball instead of golf.

It might not matter [to you], but people can definitely see your socks with pants (unless you pants are way too long, which is another topic altogether). Shouldn't wear white socks with black shoes either way.

I don't think this is true -- or, let me say that I've never subscribed to this. I'd wear black socks with black shoes, regardless of the pant color. And I'd be inclined to wear white socks with white shoes, regardless (unless I were after a "dressier" look).
Jim McLean does "Lessons" articles in GD often. He'll wear light gray pants with black shoes and gray socks [that match his pants]. I think this looks goofy. I'd wear black socks with that outfit everyday.

The thing is if you were to talk to a fashion expert, non-golf related, they would tell you socks to match pants. From a pure fashion standpoint it allows the shoes to speak for themselves instead of running up the leg.
Golfers haven't exactly been known for their keen fashion sense for a long, long time.

White socks are imho a no-go in any circumstance, except when playing tennis.
Having said that a lot of private clubs here in England require you to wear knee high white socks if you play in shorts... But after all you can't expect much from the English in terms of good taste...

No doubt. I understand the intent, and it makes sense. I guess I look at golf [attire] a bit differently, since you can go different routes with the attire, even though you're playing the same game. I guess I'd rather my golf shoes "run up the leg" (funny, but that's the exact scenario I think about regarding this topic) rather than speak for themselves.
I've been watching a lot of Premier League (English) soccer lately. I was raised on black soccer cleats. White cleats were for -- well, for baseball and football. And there really weren't other colors of cleats at the time. Now, you see more white "boots" than black out there -- and with black or other dark socks, I think it looks absurd. With white socks, it looks great. Now, some of those guys are all about having the shoe speak for itself (which in turn makes them more identifiable on the "pitch"), but my eye doesn't work that way. I guess my brain just accepts the look of the shoe color continuing up the leg more. LOL

Red socks with these puppies?! Nice!

Seriously, that's some sound reasoning, but I don't buy it. Your white Adidas would look good with white socks. Afterall, they already have black stripes on them, so what's it matter if you can see even less black at the liner against white socks?

If you tucked your shirt in, I might see the socks AND the matching belt

Tucking in shirts to these shorts is not a good look, they sit pretty high on the waist I would look like a "johnny highpants"

Well there are definitly exceptions to the rule, and red socks is always a good time to rethink my logic hahah. I guess for me I will never own anything other than white golf shoes they are just so versitle and can go with just about anything.

Good response! LOL
It's actually funny that you mention the "lining" color of the shoes -- and matching your socks to it. That some (most?) shoes these days have a different color on the "cuff" of the shoes is pretty stupid, I think. I mean, if you have black shoes, and the cuffs are white, then what's the difference -- other than a 1/4" -- in wearing white socks to match that cuff vs wearing white socks with black shoes with no white cuff? It still looks like your shoes are one color, and your socks another -- and I usually don't like that.
Maybe the shoe designers put the different color cuff/visible liner in there so that you DO wear the same color [as most of the shoe] sock, but so that it divides the shoe from the sock visually so that it doesn't look like you're wearing high-tops.
Too bad I'm not in an MBA program. I'd do my thesis on shoe/sock design/marketing -- and fail. LOL

You could be right on it there, it does eliminate the ability to change the lines of the shoe, if the liners on my shoes for example were white and I was wearing white socks it would total change the way the shoe looks, it wouldn't look like there is that distinct dip at the ankle bone and would make them look a little blah IMO. You just never know what these designer folks are thinking. Who knows maybe they just thought black would stain less. LOL.

Since we are still in the fashion dept., the shorts have got to go. If you want to wear those, the socks are the least of your worries.
