Is kinda vague huh? I'm pretty sure he was using the 9015/A4 for his win in Hawaii though. Not sure of loft or shaft though.

Thanks for the info.

Was just wondering cuz he wasn't a long driver of the ball but if you look at his driving stats, they look good.

I'm from Germany an I've visited the ACE Group Classic in Naples, where he finished T3.
I had a small talk for about 30 seconds with him. His driver shaft that week was a Graphite Design Purple Ice X-Stiff in an 9015D.

Adidas still makes Langer the old classic Z-Traxion shoes. He hasn't changed them for a long time.

I'm writing this watching Bernhard on tv coming down 18 with a two stroke lead. I was at Carnoustie a couple of times earlier in the week and had a quick look in his bag while he was on the putting green. I couldn't get a look at  the woods but the irons were a bit of a mix. He had Adams black blades as well as a few Adams cavity backs, I can also confirm drpurpell's post about the old rusty Hogan  blade long irons. Finally he had a couple of Mizuno MPT-10 wedges and a McGregor wedge.
PS
He's just won the Seniors British Open but what a struggle coming down the stretch.

We were able to follow Langer for several holes during the second round of the Principal Charity Classic in West Des Moines, IA, earlier this year.  The man is very methodical in everything he does.  On the first tee, a par 4, I watched him walk off the yardage on the tee box from a sprinkler head to the tee markers some 3 to 4 yards to the rear.  This is on the tee box of a par 4 mind you!

Anyway, on 14, a par 3 over water, we were standing quite a ways from the tee when he struck his shot.  I heard someone closer to Langer yell "Get up!"  The ball went into the water.  I can't tell you what club he was hitting because we were too far away.  I was shocked, really, that he missed the shot as badly as he did.  He went on to make double.

The man is a real stud.  Extremely fit, of course, as you can see on television.  He could easily pass for someone of about 35.   I'm pretty sure he had the Graphite Design shaft in his driver at that time.  Actually, I saw what seemed to be a lot of pros with Graphite Design shafts in their woods.

This story puts me in mind of the old tale, which may or may not be apocryphal, of Langer's exchange with Colin Montgomerie during a match at the 1991 Ryder Cup at Kiawah Island. During a fourball match Langer apparently asked Montgomerie what the latter's approach yardage was on one of the early holes.

'I've got 126 yards to the front of the green and the pin's 24 on; so it's 150 yards.' Monty replied.

'Where have you taken that yardage from?' Langer asked.

'From the sprinkler head.' Monty replied, pointing to a plastic disc adjacent to his ball, approximately eight inches in diameter.

'Is that  from the front of the sprinkler head or the back of it?'

I always laugh when I think of that story, particularly when you compare it to one from Dave Musgrove, long time caddie for Sandy Lyle, who always said that he gave Lyle yardages that would have been lax enough to give Langer a fit. Musgrove was apparently asked about Lyle's glorious 2-iron to Royal St George's 14th hole that set up a crucial birdie by an enterprising reporter. When asked what the yardage was, he replied 'about 220 yards' going on to explain that it could have been five yards either way but that Lyle wasn't exacting enough to need a specific yardage, particularly with a strong breeze blowing. A rough estimate, within a few yards, was always perfectly adequate for Lyle, whatever the length of approach.

Back on topic, you've got to love Langer's mish mash bag of clubs. Definitely a man who obsesses over having the perfect club in each slot and a man who usually sticks with something that works right up to the point that it falls apart. He was carrying seven different brands in his bag when he won his second green jacket, and I've always been fascinated to look in his bag whenever he's playing in a tournament I'm attending. Usually, the stuff that's in there looks like a rental set with more than few heavily worn clubs in play.

Watching the coverage from Carnoustie, Howard Clark, Sky's on course commentator, picked up on the chromed Hogan Apex 5 iron that's in Langer's bag, noting it was the only shiny club in his set, amongst that pair of raw Hogan long irons and his black finished Adams irons.

Saw his WITB in Golfdigest today.  It looks like they ground and shaped the toe of his Adams Pro Black MBs to look like his Hogans.  Also They don't have a weight screw.  Maybe Gachet or Mat can provide more info.

Speaking of Langer's specificity on his clubs...I was in the tour repair van at the US Open in Shinnecock in the 1990's (before they had all the manufacturer's vans)....talking to the guy who did all the pro's clubs then. Bernhrad comes in and had a new set of irons he wanted shafted and the lofts and lies set.  He handed him the specs...the repair guy reminded Langer he had them memorized....he showed me the sheet after Bernhard left and it had some of the lofts at half degree increments...same with the lies.

Wow, never seen that.

(Of course, JackNicklaus had 9 wraps of paper on the underlisting when his leather grips were put on his MacGregor's. One time they did 8 wraps on one club and he sent them back.)

His Golf Digest back shot is classic Seniors. I mean the seniors that play at my course, all kinds of old, different brands, etc. Hey wait I'm a senior. Maybe I should go the "rental" look, much cheaper.

Monty talks about that story here: http://www.golfingwo...mentary-channel

Anyone know what clubs Langer was playing this past weekend? Short irons didn't look like the mb2 in some of the shots I saw.

He was still playing them a few weeks ago at the Father Son, and I don't believe he tinkers around with his set up all that much.
