I'm heading to Mexico next week for a week. We're staying at a resort in Peurto morelas near Playa Del Carmen. Just wondering if anyone knows the best place to go play in this area. I hear its not cheap but what is the best deal?...i'm also planning to go to the Mayokoba event while i'm down there.

Any tips on where to play would really be appreciated,

Couldn't tell you the cost-we stayed in a all inclusive, including golf, resort-played both Moon Palace and Playacar multiple times-loved both courses.

I played at the course where the Mayakoba event is. I would recommend it if there wasnt a tournament there... but you will find a really nice course down there.

The PB Dye course at the Iberostar resort was absolutely phenomenal. I played it twice on my honeymoon last May and just loved it. Very difficult and it's somewhat like target golf, but well worth it. Bring plenty of your own balls because the clubhouse is pricey. They rent relatively new clubs. I played sets of Mizuno MX-25s and Titleist 804OS while I was there.

Iberostar Playa Paraiso is the name.

+1, Had almost exact same experience last Feb. Had a great time. Guy I played with also played Mayakoba a couple times. Said it played about 5 strokes harder and was beautiful, but prefered the Iberostar over it. Word of caution, take some snacks and plenty of water with you. Only saw food and beverage about twice and the mayonaise on the sandwich was hot - not good! And never thought I would say this, beer did not sound good and they had not water. Would echo to take your own balls. Great course, had the place to ourselves.

+1 on the Moon Palace course, it was great. We were there for my buddies wedding and played a round at the Nicklaus Course.

The bad news, it was the last time I ever played with my dear clubs, they got lost/stolen on the way home from that trip.

That's odd. I had no issues getting service last May. The first round I think the guys in my group went through about a fifth of Grey Goose each. I didn't have any issues getting a couple bottles of water each time the service carts came by (about 8 times each round).

My only complaint about the course was that the Canadian Tour had swung through the week before, so there were a ton of huge wedge divots when you got within 150 yds of the greens. Not that I was in the short stuff all that much.

If you can play Mayakoba, do it. I played it last January about a month before the PGA Tour event, and the greens were so pure. Of course, it helped that I had a great round there, especially after I birdied #1 and #2, I had never done that before. I felt that it was very playable and not too tough for a mid-handicap like me, even though they were getting the course ready for the tournament. Also, there is a Fairmont hotel nearby with a great spa, that's where my wife was at while I played the course.

Sorry to threadjack a bit, but did your clubs make it to the airport? Or were they stolen even before then? Wife is pushing to go to Mexico in the meantime, and I want to get as much "local knowledge" as I can on something like this..
