To be honest the Stadium Course is just ok, I dont have it real high on my list of courses to play out here. Its big selling point is that it is where the big guys play. 15,16,17,and 18 are good holes, but other than that its just ok. Its cool to play once to say you have done it, but I would rather go play Wekopa.
I actually really like the champions course across the street.

It's one of those once-in-a-lifetime must plays. Nothing more.
As the previous poster said, the finish is great, but the rest is kinda ordinary.
Great condition leading up to the FBR. They close the course just one week prior, would you believe it?
Played there last year same time and liked it, but not enough that I would go there again soon.
Troon North however, totally different story...

I assume you are asking about the Stadium course... I've not played it because I just don't see the value. The rack rate right now is $272 - that's crazy! WAY OVERPRICED for what is an average golf course.

Typically it is one of the best maintained courses in AZ. Conditions are usually flawless. It is a nice golf course and fun to play, but it is not nearly as dramatic as so many others in the area.

I will usually play it when i am there, just because it is a Tour stop and being a TPC member i can get on easily. Without actually comparing it to any other course, i would recommend playing it if you get the chance, i like the course. It is up to you to decide if it is worth the money and if its that important to you. I would call it a "must play it once" type of location, but again thats your call.

The smaller Champions course is also a nice course, they do not usually maintain it to the level of the stadium, i have played it and not not thrilled by the condition. It is shorter than the Stadium, but does have some nice holes.

I have to say the Champions Course is great value, particularly if you walk. Yes, the Tour plays on the other side of the street, so only you can decide how much that is worth to you. Considering I was able to play We ko Pa and Eagle Mountain while I was down there, I was not in the least disappointed by not playing the stadium course.

It is a good layout. Maybe the conditioning could be better, but I don't think it is as bad as JHR makes it out to be. It is a solid golf course that gives you a lot of information. For $43 to walk, it's a steal IMHO. I stayed right next to StoneCreek and while the grass appeared a little greener, I did not see a reason to pay almost triple to play there.

I actually went back to play it a second time when plans for Longbow fell through. The girl on the phone said to just walk on that would eb the best way to get out as a single. There was a slight frost delay, another single showed up, and the starter sent us off ahead of the threesome that was in the first tee time. Just over 3 hours to play!

Now if I could just stay out of those bunkers.......

As others have said.....it's ok. There are a few more intersting holes than just 16-18, but overall.....no big deal. Glad I only paid $77 to play it back in 1995.....definately not worth close to $300. Just go ahead and play it to say you have.... :)

Troon North, WeKoPa, Eagle Mountain are better courses......plus a few extras I'm leaving out (Raven??).

Been a while since we did Scottsdale, I can vouch the Champions Course (formerly Desert Course) is a good deal, maintains some semblance of TPC standards, and there's some really nice holes, also (at least when I played it a few years ago) wasn't closed in by buildings/homes.

If you're looking at other courses in Scottsdale, Sanctuary is a nice course, some reviews call it quirky, but I thought it was a nice play- it has some elevation changes and some desert wash areas.

I played it in the 80s-so my memory may be sketchy, but I thoroughly enjoyed the golf course. Not crazy hard. No. 17 is a riot. It is longer today but I shot 76 fresh out of the plane from the blue tees (not the back tees) and damn proud of it! I say play it if the price isn't out of sight. It was almost $100 when we played it over 20 yrs ago.

We love this course--because we like to play with the big guys!

Played the Champions course today. They are doing a lot of work to it so just be warned there are about 6 holes that are CART PATH ONLY. Not usually a big deal but when its 106 degrees outside its a big deal.

The course itself is a nice challenge. Fairly narrow, its like shooting darts. If you go left or right your in trouble. I thought I would do worse than I did.

potholes all over the place on the cart paths, very torn up. Greens are heavily seeded and super fast.

Is it a nice course? Yes! BUT... I can think of a dozen in the Gilbert, Chandler and Mesa area id rather play, Superstition Springs and Occotillo come to mind. But for $21 I will NOT COMPLAIN!

If you can get a decent price, it's worth playing once. There's no way I would pay over $100 when there are so many better options within fifteen minutes...both Troons, both Grayhawks, both We-Ko-Pa's, The Boulders.

I played it 3 or 4 years ago, right before the Phoenix open, and additionally played Grayhawk, WeKoPa, Troon North ( both)and Grayhawk.

It was definitely my least favorite of all. But without being unfair, it is a very good course. Unless you get to Phoenix/Scottsdale often, I wouldn't put it on top of the list. When I was there, it was more like a 'been there, done that' thing, though it was very good play, it's just not as dramatic a setting as the other courses there, where nice scenery is the real bonus in addition to good golf.

I am returning to Scottsdale in October this year, and plan to play The Boulders, We Ko Pa ( again), Troon Monument, Las Sendas and Eagle Mountain. As you will note, I am playing WeKoPa again as well as Troon......

Not worth the $$$ to be honest with you. The absolute best course in Arizona is WeKoPa by far. It is in unbelievable shape. I played it this past Sunday and did not see 1 ounce of dead grass anywhere. Do WeKoPa/Troon North instead, you won't regret it.

I played there 2 weeks ago, and it was $50 on a Saturday if I brought in 5 cans of food. Average layout, but great conditioning and service. Last 4 holes are pretty fun. I would definately play TN, WeKoPa before TPC.
