Hey - I'll be in the area in about a month and was wondering if any of you have some recommendations for some courses to play. I don't want to pay an arm and a leg [no more than $75 per round] and will probably play 3 days. Perhaps two mediocre courses and one nice course. What are some typical rates I should be expecting for a round and a cart? Let me here your suggestions. I'll be coming from Minnesota, so essentially any course will be a treat in February. Probably only willing to drive 30/45 minutes from the area.

One of my good friends lives down there and we played a few couses in that area. He lives in Bradenton (15 min away) and we played Stoneybrook, which came highly reccomended by a friend that was from Sarasota. I belive it was about $45 to ride and they had GPS in the cart. Another great one we played was The Legacy (I believe?...I think it was an Arnold Plamer course). Very nice. great holes and layout. One par 4 had an island fairway. Also $50 or so. The final day we drove about 30 min. to a course called Heron Creek GCC. I think this was my favorite, and pretty challenging at some points. The cart guy was a wise a** and told me that he hoped I brought a lot of balls. I only used 1.

Hva e fun sown there, there are alot of corses, but you cannot go wrong with the ones I listed.

Oh, I didn't get to play this one, but a friend of mine got married at the Longboat Key resort, and their course looked pretty nice from what I saw. Also not to far from Siesta Key.

Have one at the Daiquiri Deck for me!

MY grandma lives in Stoneybrook Country Club in Sarasota. It is private but they do have a public rate of $75 give or take $5-$10. It is in perfect condition and can be brutal when the wind is blowing. A lot of forced carries and difficult par 3's. Check it out

Lot's of good courses in the area. My inlaws live on TPC of Prestancia. I like the Venetian and I have played Oak Ford quite a few times (a little out of the way but not as crowded). I have not played Oak Ford in a few years so I cannot discuss the conditions. You might also want to look into Tatum Ridge. Have a great trip.

If i'm not mistaken isn't TPC Prestancia right across the street from Stoneybrook or I think its a few miles down the same road?

Bobcat Trail's just down I-75 about 30 minutes, it's a tight course with a lot of water in play, well designed, and in good shape, and this time of year, the rates are decent. here's a link to a review of it: http://forelinksters...trail_golf_club

By flat I mean flat compared to courses where i live in toronto. Sarasota national was open & easy, long marsh is private, legacy is challenging & picturesque, oak ford waz not matured. Go with legacy
