--Contact the courses directly and ask about their best rates. They have been kind of generous with discounts
--Kind of last minute, but use Golfnow.com for some great deals
--Watch all the various course internet sites for coupons online
There are deals out there for even some top end courses, you just have to do some leg work.

Others I played and which were a steal (but not very close to Scottsdale...) both are Troon Golf courses
Poston Butte - 1 hours drive in direction of Tucson. $99 unlimited golf with cart, lunch and a sleeve of balls
Estrella - half an hour south-east of downtown Phoenix. $109 unlimited golf, lunch and a 12pc box of PROV1s!!!
Check troongolf.com website for similar coupons!

Legend Trail...best greens in the area right now
Wildfire...great condition
We ko Pa.....great course...feels like your in the middle of nowhere
Whirlwind....two good courses around a hundy each
Southern Dunes....way south but worth the trip
and you can never go wrong with Troon North and Boulders IMO

I echo the advice about golfnow.com
If you are going to splurge on one course, I recommend We-Ko-Pa Saguaro (Coore & Crenshaw). Best public access course in the greater Phoenix area IMHO.
Check out Vista Verde (Ken Kavanaugh) - it is the "secret course." No houses to mar the wonderful views. Excellent golf.
In the west valley, the Raven @ Verrado. (Fought & Lehman)
South of town (probably an hour drive from central Scottsdale) in Maricopa, two very good courses and very good values: The Duke (David Druzisky) and Southern Dunes (Schmidt & Curley) which was until recently a private course.
Good luck and enjoy your visit!

Sanctuary
Troon North ($115)
Sunridge
Camelback
TPC Champion ($95)
I'm sure on the prices stated, but the others were no more than $150 with very cheap replays and next-day coupons. Again check golfnow.com. The only one we passed on was We-Ko-Pa which was $209.
Have fun, the weather is perfect!

I was just checking the website and it looks like its only $25 for general admission... is that right???
does this general admission allow you to go into the 16th hole area??? does anybody know about the parking situation at the tourney?

As for courses - they are all pretty high right now. As said before, golfnow.com is the best bet.
Good luck - the FBR is worth it - very unique golf experience.
