I have a chance at a free condo in the scottsdale area the end of January... the only prob is all the courses down there seem to be very expensive.. does any body know of any reasonably prices courses or of some discount golf program/website anything that will be able to get us on the course without making us broke???

i understand this is probably peak time for AZ but 245/round at Troon North is ridiculous

There are 3 way to not break the bank.

--Contact the courses directly and ask about their best rates. They have been kind of generous with discounts

--Kind of last minute, but use Golfnow.com for some great deals

--Watch all the various course internet sites for coupons online

There are deals out there for even some top end courses, you just have to do some leg work.

Played Troon last year same time and played both courses for the price of one.

Others I played and which were a steal (but not very close to Scottsdale...) both are Troon Golf courses

Poston Butte - 1 hours drive in direction of Tucson. $99 unlimited golf with cart, lunch and a sleeve of balls
Estrella - half an hour south-east of downtown Phoenix. $109 unlimited golf, lunch and a 12pc box of PROV1s!!!

Check troongolf.com website for similar coupons!

You could get a southwest pass and it's good for 50% off rack rates. Not a good idea unless you plan to go there alot to golf(AZ)

I don't know a whole lot about the courses there but when i was down for the Fiesta we hit up the course at the Hyatt Regency at Gainey Ranch and it was pretty nice. $119.

Golf in Scottsdale IS expensive. To find reasonable rates, you have to drive.

I echo the advice about golfnow.com

If you are going to splurge on one course, I recommend We-Ko-Pa Saguaro (Coore & Crenshaw). Best public access course in the greater Phoenix area IMHO.

Check out Vista Verde (Ken Kavanaugh) - it is the "secret course." No houses to mar the wonderful views. Excellent golf.

In the west valley, the Raven @ Verrado. (Fought & Lehman)

South of town (probably an hour drive from central Scottsdale) in Maricopa, two very good courses and very good values: The Duke (David Druzisky) and Southern Dunes (Schmidt & Curley) which was until recently a private course.

Good luck and enjoy your visit!

Just came back from Scottsdale and the prices were really not too bad:

Sanctuary
Troon North ($115)
Sunridge
Camelback
TPC Champion ($95)

I'm sure on the prices stated, but the others were no more than $150 with very cheap replays and next-day coupons. Again check golfnow.com. The only one we passed on was We-Ko-Pa which was $209.

Have fun, the weather is perfect!

I was just checking the website and it looks like its only $25 for general admission... is that right???

does this general admission allow you to go into the 16th hole area??? does anybody know about the parking situation at the tourney?

For the FBR You park right off the Loop 101 FWY and Hayden Rd. There are then shuttles that take you near the gate. If you buy your tix at a Van's Pro Shop or PGA superstore, Golfsmith, etc. they are only $20 and this gets you into the bleachers (which are all the way around this year) at the 16th - get there early though or you won't sniff anything around there. It is a blast though - you'll hear that hole from all the way across the course. If you like to watch more golf, walk the front nine - usually less crowded - especially away from the clubhouse. There will be more than 20,000 at #16 alone - it is a full arena style hole now. That is what most normal tournaments have for the whole course.

As for courses - they are all pretty high right now. As said before, golfnow.com is the best bet.

Good luck - the FBR is worth it - very unique golf experience.

Get to the 16th very early each morning... it has gone corporate now. They have enclosed the entire hole with luxury skyboxes, as a token they have left 2000 seats open for general admission in a couple of bleachers.
