We are looking to take an early March golf Trip to Alabama. We always have a larger group go in October, and we play the RTJ trail. This time we are looking to play some other courses preferably no farther south then Montgomery. RTJ wise we have played both Shoals,Ross Bridge, Oxmoor,Grand National, and all of Capital Hill. We have also played Limestone Springs.
So any suggestions on some golf that would be of the RTJ trail caliber courses??? Ive heard that Farmlinks is really really good. Anyway we are starting to plan now, so any information would be great.
We have also considered Mississippi as a possibility but wouldnt want to get any farther south then mid state. Mainly we like to play 36 a day for 3 days, so a few different courses would be great.
Thanks

If you come to Alabama you guys have to play Farmlinks. That course is well worth it, since you have played everything else in the area. Although you guys could play Farmlinks and then hit the RTJ in Greenville, Al (43 miles south of Montgomery). That is only 2 hours south of Sylacauga, Al (Farmlinks)

I would play 36 at Farmlinks.
Do you have any private country club connections? Or if you're a member somewhere, you could talk to your pro and try to get hooked up to Willow Point or some of the really good private courses in Birmingham (Shoal Creek, Greystone, Birmingham CC, Old Overton, etc.)
EDIT: Agreed...Dancing Rabbit is a lot of fun! (Azalea and Oaks are both good)

If you enjoy all of the RTJ courses, you would really like Ballantrae Golf Course. It is in a town just outside of Birmingham, called Pelham. It is a beautiful course, actually very cheap for the course quality. And the clubhouse is the last thing you would ever expect to find in the middle of Alabama, it's a castle!! Anyhow, check it out at www.ballantraegolf.com

I know you said you don't want to go south of Montgomery, but you can't come that far south and not go the extra 30-40 minutes to Greenville to play Cambrian Ridge. It's my favorite of the Trail courses. There are three 9s there; play the Canyon and Sherling courses to make your 18. The Loblolly course is not bad, but not in the league of the other two, IMO. The Sherling is supposed to be the "signature" nine but I like Canyon the best.

Silver Star Casino in central MS has 36 holes of top notch golf. The course is called Dancing Rabbit...and is REAL good.
Thanks for the pictures - my wife and I just booked three-days at Dancing Rabbit. We're really excited and the package can't be beat. Two-weeks ago I played the RTJ Golf Trail and it was a blast. The three-day package with the forth day free (unlimited golf) is a super priced package well worth it.
Since we haven't been to Dancing Rabbit and have heard wonderful comments about the courses, we're really excited. I know the courses in the area are extremely wet right now, but hopefully in two three weeks they will have dried out.

Dancing Rabbit is really nice... You've got deer running around, all the holes are fair on both courses, and it's always in great shape. Try to stay on the Silver Star side. It's got nicer rooms than the Moon, and a good restaurant that looks like a villa on the inside (can't remember the name) that's got pretty decent food at good prices. It even has a breakfast buffet for about half of what the actual buffet place charges. It's also easier to get to the course from the Silver Star since it's on the same side of the street and they'll run you in golf carts or you can make the 10 minute walk as opposed to waiting for the moon shuttle. Just make sure to bring everything you could possibly need with you because it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere. There's a walmart about 25 minutes away.
