I went down there last summer from Cincinnati and played Bonaventure and Inverrary. If you want to experience the waterfall hole on Bonaventure, that's pretty much the only thing you'll get from that course. It's one of the coolest holes I've ever played. Inverrary is a must and should be pretty cheap. Great course and greens when I played there.

I'd defnitely check out some other courses too.

Have fun down there.

For Public I like Heron Bay - It used to be TPC Heron Bay and hosted the Honda.

For the record - the rates are a LOT more expensive in January than what you probably paid in the spring! The winter rates in Florida are at the highest from January to March - sometimes double or triple what you pay in the spring / summer. A lot of courses that are $50 in the summer are $100-$125 in January!

Where in Fort Lauderdale will you be staying?

Also, Plantation Preserve is a much better choice than Bonaventure or Inverrary right now. You might also check out Colony West's and Hillcrest's Championship courses. (Both also have an executive course.)

i played Inverarry West Saturday, 60 bucks, greens were running 10.5 approx, hard as a rock, fairways were dry, rough was 3 inches although not thick due to lack of water. Jacaranda would be a better choice as well as Parkland Golf & CC. Deer Creek was in real good shape last weekend as well.

Plantation Preserve is always in good shape ( highly recomended). Another great course that is in excellent shape and it is an excellent layout is The Club at Emerald Hills ( located in Hollywood). Pembroke Lakes is another good set up.

We are staying on the beach in Fort Lauderdale at the Pelican Beach Resort. I dont mind driving a little bit to find a good course. I'm going to look into the ones you guys recommended, thanks for all the info!

Hollywood Beach is a nice course, just down the road form you. +1 for Plantation Preserve. You know Doral is 30 minutes from Ft Lauderdale if you want to spend the money.

I 2nd ronzo's suggestion of Hillcrest. I went down there from Mich. with 15 other guys in my group and all agreed that that was the best course we played for our whole trip.

Best course in the area IMO is Crandon Park in Key Biscayne, that would be about 30 minutes from Ft. Lauderdale unless you are driving on rush hour.

I don't know where you live down here, but let me assure you that you couldn't get to Crandon Park from where they're staying in a half hour without a Bell Rocket Belt. It's ALL rush hour.

I second Heron Bay and Jacaranda. Heron Bay as long as it is under $100 in winter is a fun course. I do think the service has fallen off a bit since it was sold, but I think it is a fun track. They have also removed a number of the bunkers that made it unliked by the Tour pros. Jacaranda just underwent an extensive renovation and I think that both courses are some of the better conditioned courses in the Fort Lauderdale area. To me Doral is overpriced, but I do agree with the above post that Crandon Park might be the best public track in South FL.

I would recommend:

Plantation Preserve
Deer Creek
Emerald Hills
Heron Bay
Jacaranda
