I started with all 7, and the grip I had was amazing! Even on some tee boxes with almost no grass, there was no slipping, no giant snap hook because my feet moved, and most importantly, no back pain from having my lower body unstable.
I then tried just the 4 on the heel and forefoot, which was exactly the same as having all 7 in, since when you swing you don't use your toes (or at least you shouldn't).
Lately, I have now tried just 2, one on the inside heel and outside forefoot. Through 2 rounds in kind of sloppy conditons, I can say that as long as I diligently clean my shoes, the grip provided is just about the same as with 4. A couple of times on wet bentgrass fairway with the ball well above my feet, I slipped slightly, but I also had not cleaned the shoe completely.
I want to have the least possible so as not to cause any trouble, and I am happy with the 2, but I think I will try 3, adding one more to the forefoot area, since that is where most of the force is generated.
In conclusion, if you have a traditional swing with lower body action and a big inner right knee push move (toward the left knee in transition), and you're tired of back pain and ugly snap hooks from stopping your body due to foot slippage, try some of the champ pro stingers.
