Will be going down to North Venice Florida the first week in December, which is about an hour from Tampa International and 45 min from Ft. Myers Airport. We are staying in a condo on a golf course called the Venetian Golf and River Club. We will probably play there 3-4 times over 4 days, but we also want to play elsewhere a couple of times. Any sugggestions? By the way we are all mid-high handicappers, so something similar to Bethpage Black in NY is not up our alley.lol. Any help would be appreciated, as its our first time travelling to this area

Venetian is a great course for starters.

You have Legacy in Sarasota and Heron Creek in North Port. Those are two I would play for sure. There are many others as well.

Bobcat trail is a nice course just south of North Port and Stoneybrook and Riverstrand in Bradenton are nice courses too. Venetian will be just a step above most of those quality wise but it's quite a bit more expensive. They should all be in pretty good shape come December. Also, none of the courses I've listed are more than 20 minutes from Venetian.
