What about the more inspirational movies like The Legend of Bagger Vance and The Greatest Game Ever Played?
they could have been pretty much about any sport. i am glad they were made, dont get me wrong, and they have some strong golf themes; but nothing truly unique or engaging about them as "golf films". just two more Disney-ish takes on a random sport.
caddyshack, however, is a great comedy period. regardless of the subject matter. so that speaks very well for it.
it's unfortunate there arent more options. remember the "Tiger Woods Story"? how the heck did something that miserable even get made?
if it's the one I'm thinking off, that was a real stinker. they showed "him" playing Augusta, but it wasn't Augusta, it was some course with oak trees.
Caddyshack in it's day, but it is too slow and outdated today and losses some luster...so TIN CUP for me!
too slow and outdated? compared to what? that's one of the silliest things i've ever heard.
i would say the problem lies more with the way comedies are right now. you expect to laugh every 3.5 seconds, if not less. dont get me wrong, i love Anchorman and Talladega Nights, but that type of writing (or lack thereof) is big time hit-or-miss. i mean, did you see Semi-Pro or Step Brothers? once too often into the well, my friend.
Caddyshack and Happy Gilmore 'cause we need to laugh at ourselves for taking this game way to seriously, Greatest Game Ever Played for a bit of history and inspiration, and Tin Cup when you're trying to make some girl you're hitt'n on like you for being a golfer.
"You know I invented my own grass too and the amazing stuff about this is you can play 36 holes on it, then you can take some home and get stoned out of the bejesus with it."
Can we put Dogma on the list for the scene where one of the protagonists kills a demon using a golf club (a driver, I think) that's been blessed by a Roman Catholic Bishop who wanted to improve his game?
And I vote Tin Cup just for the description of the never perfect golf swing.
Another one for Caddyshack. "How about a frisker?"
You are out of the club.
Fresca.
I ain't payin' 50 cents for no Coke..
1. Tin Cup (For the description of the perfect golf swing)
2. Caddyshack
3. Bagger Vance
4. The Greatest Game Ever Played
5. Who's your caddy? (BOOOOOO)
I won't jump on the Caddyshack bandwagon with this question because I personally think the plot is silly. Funny but in a juvenile way, not for my taste. My choice: Tin Cup.

What is the one with the kid that went against Walter Hagan and somebody else famous I cannot recall? It was a true story.
Its called "The greatest game ever played" and he didn't play hagen, he played harry varden and ted ray.
Pretty sure he's talking about "The Legend of Bagger Vance" where the kid(Mat Damon) takes on Walter Hagan and Bobby Jones
The reason I say its "The greatest game ever played" is because is explicitly states at the begining "this is a true story".
I know both are true stories about the golfers, but the opening credit is why I say the greatest game.
