they could have been pretty much about any sport. i am glad they were made, dont get me wrong, and they have some strong golf themes; but nothing truly unique or engaging about them as "golf films". just two more Disney-ish takes on a random sport.

caddyshack, however, is a great comedy period. regardless of the subject matter. so that speaks very well for it.

if it's the one I'm thinking off, that was a real stinker. they showed "him" playing Augusta, but it wasn't Augusta, it was some course with oak trees.

Kenneth More whacks a few balls in Reach For The Sky - albeit the golf plays second fiddle to tales of derring do by those RAF chaps.

That said, I'll cast another vote for Caddyshack. Even with points deducted for the woeful sequel it's still a classic.

Caddyshack in it's day, but it is too slow and outdated today and losses some luster...so TIN CUP for me!

too slow and outdated? compared to what? that's one of the silliest things i've ever heard.

i would say the problem lies more with the way comedies are right now. you expect to laugh every 3.5 seconds, if not less. dont get me wrong, i love Anchorman and Talladega Nights, but that type of writing (or lack thereof) is big time hit-or-miss. i mean, did you see Semi-Pro or Step Brothers? once too often into the well, my friend.

Several very good ones - Tin Cup, Legend of Bagger Vance - but I love Caddyshack.

Happy Gilmore ---------- Tin Cup ---------- Caddyshack are the 3 I can sit and watch about anytime.

What is the one with the kid that went against Walter Hagan and somebody else famous I cannot recall? It was a true story.

Caddyshack and Happy Gilmore 'cause we need to laugh at ourselves for taking this game way to seriously, Greatest Game Ever Played for a bit of history and inspiration, and Tin Cup when you're trying to make some girl you're hitt'n on like you for being a golfer.

SPOILER for a Kevin Smith movie called Dogma!!!!!

Can we put Dogma on the list for the scene where one of the protagonists kills a demon using a golf club (a driver, I think) that's been blessed by a Roman Catholic Bishop who wanted to improve his game?

And I vote Tin Cup just for the description of the never perfect golf swing.

Pretty sure he's talking about "The Legend of Bagger Vance" where the kid(Mat Damon) takes on Walter Hagan and Bobby Jones.

I actually own this movie, it's called "Follow the Sun", and it's the story of Ben Hogan.

Other than that, it's Caddyshack. Goonga ga lunga!

I won't jump on the Caddyshack bandwagon with this question because I personally think the plot is silly. Funny but in a juvenile way, not for my taste. My choice: Tin Cup.

The reason I say its "The greatest game ever played" is because is explicitly states at the begining "this is a true story".
I know both are true stories about the golfers, but the opening credit is why I say the greatest game.

Caddy Shack by far. For those who have never worked at a golf club, it's nearly a documentary!! There are SOOO many characters at golf clubs...
