is it me or is this just so forced? I am tired of hearing it, if the PGA is a major why do they need to keep reminidng us, is the general public really this stupid that they don't know it is the last major of the year? It is funny how even the Golf Channel keeps trying to work it in. Kelly Tilgman, tried to work it into a sentence the other night, she was more awkward than ever.
We're spared it in the UK since Sky are providing the coverage. That said, they do a cracking job each March er.. I mean May, of telling us that The Players is the 'fifth major' every five minutes. Even though there is no such thing and it isn't.
It is right up there with CBS playing "One Shining Moment" during the NCAA Tournament. I think that it is just awkward because it isn't Glory's Last Shot. It would be Glory's Last Shot if there was a sniper behind the 18th green picking off 2nd Place finishers through last place.
Personally, I would rather hear about The Players being the 5th major (which is inaccurate because the PGA is the 5th major) than about the PGA being Glory's Last Shot.
The PGA is such a worthless major. If not for 90 years of history keeping it a major (and thereby screwing up the history books for greats like Hogan and Snead), there'd be no reason to continue considering it a major.
I have no problem with teh slogan, and think it is meant for people who are not HUGE golf fans. My wife heard it on the coverage yesterday, and asked me about it. when i explained what it meant she thought it was very cool.
i'm with you man, i can't stand it. now, i think the pga is several steps below the opens, and i think they know it. but, it's still a great tournament with great players, played (usually) on great courses. but that "glory's last shot" business just sounds so desperate. i mean that might be an ok slogan for the last pga tourney of the year where none of the top players play or something. but come on if the best promo idea that you can come up with is that it's the last of the year, i'd say keep looking.

Obviously you are trying to stir something up, so let us have what in your opinion the the "real 4th major" and please explain besides history what even makes a major a major. Personally I think that 90 years of history is exactly why it is still a major and always will be. Does it rank below the Opens and the Masters? in most opinions yes, but I bet you can't name one pro who wouldn't trade any other win for a PGA. I bet Colin and Sergio would love to have one on their resume, and Jack Nicklaus considered the PGA more important than the Masters which he ranked as the least important major. Times do change, but it is pretty well established that when counting majors this is one of the big 4.
