-Not much to say about the 2008 RBC Canadian Open. Chez Reavie certainly needs to be commended for enduring a very trying week hampered by endless rain. Reavie's win was even more appropriate considering he was wearing clothing from Canadian manufacturer, Quagmire Golf. He probably had some good karma coming his way considering he had volunteered to appear Tuesday of tournament week at an outing for the members of the Golf Journalists' Association of Canada. Sometimes being kind to the media does pay off.

-A tip of the hat as well to Glen Abbey Superintendent Scott Bowman and his crew (as well as many other ClubLink staffers who pitched in from other facilities) for at least making the course playable.

-With RBC now on board as a title sponsor and a strong rota of courses on the horizon (despite the not so hot date) I am sure the RCGA is pleased at what they developed the Canadian Open into this week.

One sure sign that they are succeeding at being a much more progressive group is best told by a story I heard last night from one of my readers.

Apparently he had attended the tournament on Thursday and had arrived to the course during the extensive rain delay. By the time he and his group were set to leave the Glen Abbey property play had yet to resume, meaning they got to witness ZERO golf. Looking to check what type of compensation he might receive he enquired at the ticket desk and was told that no refund would be issued since it was possible that the players might still get on to the course before the evening would end.

It turns out that it was a ticket supervisor and he informed our reader that if he wanted to pursue a higher level of recourse he would have to contact the RCGA directly. Well, the reader did so, using the RCGA web page to find the email address for newly installed RCGA Executive Director Scott Simmons. He emailed him immediately on his mobile device, expecting little response. He was shocked to see an email back to him within 45 minutes from Scott, personally offering an apology and detailing how he would be given a refund if he sent him all his details.

Now THAT is exactly the accountability to the people that the RCGA has outlined as a priority and impressively, Simmons is backing up the talk.

Refreshing to see!
