With all the knowledge and ability on this board, I am sure of you have all competed in USGA championships. What is the acheivement you are most proud of?

My index currently sits at 8, and I have set a goal for myself of getting it low enough before age 35 (31 now) to attempt to qualify for the Mid-Amatuer. If that can happen, I am hoping that before I am 40, I can make it through the qualifying, although I realize that is a fairly lofty goal...

Anyone got any success tales for us?

Qualified for the 1992 USGA Pub Linx in Brooklyn Park, Minn....I missed the cut into match play but the upside was them taking everyone who missed the cut to play Hazeltine the next day........It is the only USGA event I've ever qualified for although I try just about every year for the Pub Linx, Mid-Am, and even the Open when I get my handicap low enough....It was one of the best golfing experiences I've ever had....

At last!!! Someone replied...

Best of luck to you in future endeavors. I love tournament golf, it really tests your skills, be it at the club championship level or USGA!

Like you maguy1970 I have set a lofty goal for myself to one day qualify for mid amatuer. First I want to get my 6.3 index down to be able to just qualify for our local SCGA mid am. qualifiers. Seems like the guys who make it to even the local So. Cal. mid am are + golfers. Anyone know what most of the USGA ams are shooting to qualify or play too index wise? I know the USGA has an index regulation of 4.0 or so for Mid Am. It would be great to hear from people who have competed.

I've missed the cut to qualify all three times I tried by for the Publinx, by a total of 5 shots. That's been several years ago, and I've gotten my index down to scratch or better now, so I going to be giving the Publinx and the Mid-Am another go this time around.

Spider, around here (MD) you have to shoot par or near it to have a chance. Couple of years it's been a little under/over, but if you shoot par you have a good chance.

Spider,

Normally the USGA site has the results from past qualifying for their championships during the few weeks around the tournament. Generally, I think even gets you in here in MA, although sometimes just as an alternate.
