Tiger's chances of Player Of The Year Thoughts?

- Trevor Immelman does not win a major/FedEx
- No one blows by him in the money rankings
- One of the top players does not win the FedEx cup
Or will a FedEx cup win lock up the Player of The Year (even if that player has no majors)?

He's only playing half the year. Its true he's sort of dominated the half year that he played, but it really wouldn't seem right for someone who drops out in June (and didn't play for a month or two prior to this last tournament) to get that award (any more than it would seem right for a football player who spent half a season injured to be selected for the annual All Star game).
That said, I fear whomever does win the POY will consider it a somewhat hollow victory. Beating Tiger for it would be a highlight of many people's careers. Winning it because Tiger self-selected out for half a season? Will that really feel like winning anything?

4 wins out of 6 starts and his name is Tiger Woods--I`d vote for him!
You got me. As impressive Dubai was, it's not PGA event.

Doesn't that mean it will go to a player who dominates only the other half a year?
Or (worse?) go to a player who didn't dominate any part of the year?
I really don't know if Tiger should get the award, I'm just saying is all...

If Phil wins 1 of 2 majors as well as the FedEx Cup I think he gets it. He will have more $$$ and an equal or better resume. Even though Tiger's 6 PGA events resulted in 6 top 10s and 4 wins, it's still only 6 events. Phil will most likely play 20-22 events.

I respectfully disagree. I think if he wins, it will show how strong the tour is. Reason being that it would demonstrate how difficult it is to separate yourself from the pack. If Tiger wins, it would be because no one else was able to put together a really strong run. If someone else wins it, then that might go some way towards suggesting that the tour is actually fairly weak.
Does anyone know if Tiger is even eligible for it? It's PGA Tour player of the year and since Tiger won't have played the necessary 15 events, he might well not even be eligible.

the tour consists of the best golfers in the world. none better. therefore it is impossible to call it weak. however, if he wins, it shows just how incredible he is
