Pleasantly surprising performance is a great way to succinctly sum up the Nike Karma low compression golf ball. After picking up a sleeve (on a whim) for the course logo ball I needed for my collection, I decided to play the other two Karma balls out of sheer curiosity. To be quite honest, my expectations for this golf sphere were pretty low, especially considering the green body art wrapped around the number and the Nike Swoosh. I must admit, the green tattoo grew on me as the round went on. On a very cool, late spring, Ohio day, the Karma played true to its character, soft as advertised. According to Nike, “the Karma’s soft 50 compression core delivers added distance.” For a soft, two-piece golf ball, the Karma offers great all around performance, playability and durability with a very affordable price per dozen ($19.99). In fact, the Karma appeared to play longer off the tee than my current stockpile of cold weather golf balls, the Wilson PX3. The ball was definitely longer off the tee and irons, and it felt on par with the PX3 while putting out on the greens. The Karma’s ball flight was nice and straight and it even had the ability to check up nicely on high shots into greens. The Karma is definitely not spin happy though, please don’t confuse it with its much more costly big brother, the One Platinum. This ball is eerily similar to the Precept Laddie, but all in all, a better all around golf ball. If you seek a low compression ball or you are wanting to try out something new for the colder golf climates, try the Karma. I know I'll be purchasing a few dozen for fall. Heck, the Karma has something no other ball offers in addition to its great all around golf manners, body art!
