Going to be 16 F with 25 mph winds tomorrow.  I'm off work.  I want to play.  If I find a course open, I'm going to give it a go. Bringing water and whiskey. Separate bottles.

Any other kooks playing tomorrow in the windy icebox?

Not even us morons north of the 49th would be willing to go out in that.  That's why there are aeroplanes and warm places.

Good luck. I could imagine the 16 deg but add the 25mph wind - too much for me. In any case, we have snow covered courses here in Chicago so thankfully I won't be tempted.

Temp is no concern but finding a course open can be! We have a foot of snow on the the ground in East Cleveland that limits us. BB

Thankfully those kind of temperatures are very unusual here. Extremely unusual possibly, especially during the day. The coldest I ever played was -2c. It was misty when we started then it became freezing fog and when we got to the club house on the turn we both gave it up as a bad job. We both had winter gloves with us but apparently you can have warm gloves or water proof gloves. Not both :(

I believe the wind gusts are looking to be up to 40 mph tomorrow.  I played with wind chill as low as the teens and heat index as bad as above 100 last year, but 16 with 25 to 40 mph winds is too much even for me.

But I bet Pennsauken is open if you do head out.
You may need a rowboat to get around though with the snow melting today and the ground soaked since basically August.

I realize I'm a puny southerner, but I don't mind playing when it's cold if I really want to play.  But actual temperatures below about 35, or cold weather at all and winds over 15mph or wind chill below about 30 and golf is a big no-go zone for golf!!!  And those are on the days I really want to play.  If I'm not really yearning for golf that day, add about 15 degrees to these temperatures.

-8C plus a windchill is just crazy....i honestly don't get it. I'm as Canadian as it gets, i wear my jacket unzipped with a T-shirt underneath when it's -25C, i took my daughter to the mall today in a blizzard at -17C

But golf when it's -8 with a windchill? That isn't even golf!

When my dogs don't want to go out to pee..... Then it's too cold.

The older I get the less I'm willing to play in colder weather. My cut off is like 50 sunny and no wind. 10 - 20 years ago? Almost anything above freezing.

I'm stopped from golfing by two things, mainly -- snow cover, and course won't let me out. Well, pouring rain makes three things, but I get lots of good golf in by being willing to play in conditions that put most others off. At 16F, though, I can't think of a course around here that would let me play.

I played once about 5 years ago when the temp. was in the low 20's, with no wind at all, and no snow on the ground, just to say I did it. The only advantages were I had the place to myself, and the ponds were frozen solid, so an errant shot didn't land in them, it bounced off. With the clothes I had to wear, it was like playing on the moon, only like hitting a rock that went nowhere near the distances I was used to. lt really wasn't golf, more like giant solo hockey.

16 and windy is not golf weather. It's currently 18 at my house in NC with calm wind, no way would I consider golfing as an option. What kind of course will even allow you to play in this? Not worth it in my opinion.
