No surprises there at all. It will be interesting how his style and personality will fit into being a Ryder Cup captain. Here's hoping he takes to it like a duck to water!

That make three captains from Ireland (the island) in 4 Ryder Cups, no? And Graeme McDowell must be in the running in a few years time.

Driver: Ping G400 Tour 65S
4w: TaylorMade R9 stock Fujikura Motore X flex
7w  TaylorMade V-steel, Quadra Fire Express RB 6SX
Driving Iron: Tourstage Airmuscle with DGS200 (for occasional use only)
Irons (4i-PW): Mizuno MP18 PX6.0 @ + 1/2"  or something a bit older....MP-4s, Mac Muirfield 20ths, Mac Muirfields, Mizuno MS-11s, MS-1s, RAM Tour Grinds, Tourstage 2005 CBs, Honma PP737s, Mac R-58s, Dunlop Maxfli TM-92 Australian Blades, Wilson FG-J8s (FG-17s)...uh, I've missed a few
Wedges: Callaway MD2 50* S and 54* S-grind  or whatever else I fancy for the day
In the 60* slot: Usually a Titlesit Vokey 260 60*
Putter: Testing some old Mizuno 8802 clone

European golf really does have a hard-on for all things Irish at the moment.

I think he’ll be a disaster. He’ll have too many ideas and end up confusing everyone, like how he confused himself with his swing.

I believe he may be a bit "quirky" for the job. I can see him coming up with a few really "out there" decisions that will either turn him into a folk hero or  make him more hated in Ireland than Oliver Cromwell.

I have an image of him crazily driving around on a cart a la Seve in 1997 alas with an awful lot less charm that Seve.

Agreed. Clarke's "contribution" as a Captain is limited to the stupidly expensive kit they now wear.

Almost an impossible task to beat the US team in the US in 2020 with their young and talented side.

Good luck to Harrington though.

Yeah curious to see how both Paddy and Sergio handle this. Sergio has been such an icon for the European team, wonder if he will get picked if he is just outside of automatically making the team.

Nah water off a ducks back. Paddy is so in his own a head we won't even notice, so the journos won't even bother.
They'll skewer Rory for not showing enough passion, showing too much passion stupid faker, not hitting good wedges, not hitting clutch putts, not...

Of course it won't really matter when they win it 15 1/2 to 12 1/2 after the Belgian Thomases go a collective 6-0-2 and Phil spends the week heckling the US team. Hey never too early for predictions

Robert Karlsson may be a darkhorse for future Ryder Cup captaincy.

He is well respected on tour and has been a vice-captain.

I disagree to some extent, if a Euro captain loses away from home and does a good job with regards to the players then the criticism seems to be far less. For example Faldo vs Clarke, the levels of criticism for those two were miles apart. Lots of leaks to the press about the former being a bad captain not so much with the latter. I think the Euro press is realistic that the US team will almost always be heavy favourites when playing at home.
