What are your thoughts on a good wedge setup when using a 43 deg PW and 48 deg GW from your iron set?

Exactly. Hate unequal gapping.

I think what's more important is what distance you hit the wedges you decide upon. I know I hit a 50* Ping Glide further then an Edel at 50*. It's so strange that I hit my RTX3 at 54* almost as far as my 50* Edel.

Gapping based purely on lofts provided by the manufacturer may not be enough for you to dial it in without some trial and error.

Find a trackman and get a wedge fitting. Take your iron set wedges with you.

I hit various wedges farther than others.  Not end of world.  But you want to have even gapping as best as possible.

I play 44 48 54 60.

Only difference is my 9i is 44 and my pw is 48.

Id treat it no different in that your pw is really a 9i and your GW is a traditional PW.

Yeah bro it's pretty simple....start with 4 deg gaps and see, alter if necessary.....

Your GW is basically your PW.....depends how many wedges you want to carry as well....assuming their GI clubs so they prolly go further than normal wedge....buy wedges you can bend either way if necessary......common sense really imo

It's how far you hit em that matters not number on sole

For a long time people played a 48 PW, 52 GW, 56 SW, 60 LW. Why sacrifice the wedge game because your 9-iron is stamped PW and your PW is stamped GW?

For a long time people played 49 PW, 56 SW.  There was no GW back then and the LW was rare.

I would take my 43* PW and bend it to 44* and deal with a 5* gap between 9-iron and PW.  Then I would go to a 50* Gap Wedge and learn to deal with the 6* difference.  Then I would go to a 55* SW, and make that my trusty wedge.  I would only add a 60* wedge if I was prepared to spend plenty of time practicing with it and dialing it in.

( I have got to think that if you are a low handicap player that you would not have a 43* PW in the first place, because that is basically a weak 9-iron.)

But here is a thought.  Your AP1 9-iron is 38*.  From there you could go to an AP2 9-iron at 42* (would feel better, and for a 9-iron you don't need the forgiveness of the AP1).  Then you could go Ap2 PW at 46*, and round it out with a 52* gap wedge and a 56* or 58* SW.

I wouldn’t ever use a set with with a 43 degree “pitching wedge” so I can’t truthfully answer the question.

Edit...should clarify.  I like more  “traditional” lofts on my irons. 38 8 iron, 42 9 iron, 46 pitch.

I go 43* 9 iron, 47* PW, 56* bent to 53* and a 60*.
I never understood the obsession with 4* gaps. Learning to hit partial shots have improved my tempo and ballstriking massively.

Yeah the whole 43° pitching wedge question shouldn't change the wedge options just because it's called a PW vs a 9 iron. Common setups with a 43° 9 iron and 47° PW used to be:

52, 56, 60
54, 60
52, 58

Just depends if you have room for 3 wedges or 4 after your 43° club.

As others have said, find out how far you hit them first and then try the new wedges. I hit a 52* CBX further than I hit a 50* Ping Glide 2.0.

But theoretically I’d be looking for the following.

Summer - 43, 48, 52, 58, 64

Winter - 43, 48, 52, 56

That’s what I find best in England, hard greens need more loft, soft greens I can do what I need to with a 56 or a 58. I bought a 56 with a much wider sole than my 58 though which certainly helps when it’s really soft turf.

lol.  I love that they just change a 9 to a pw and a pw to a gap wedge.   Its so weird I am hitting my pitching wedge so much further.  like a 9 iron.  lol

43 - 48 - 52 - 58, but bend that 52° weak to 53°.  Then you have perfect 5° gaps

You really can't use anyone's recommendations other then your own.  Everyone's game is different.  Can you take 1/2, 3/4 swings with a wedge to adjust distance?  Can you hit the ball higher or lower to adjust distances with wedges?  Can YOU deal with 5* or more gaps?  These are the things you need to consider.  Not what anyone else does.

I gp 44* pw, 48* gap, 52* and 56*.   The name on the club does not matter, its the degree of loft.

If I had a 43 degree pitching wedge, I would be compelled to add a real pitching wedge (47 or 48 degrees) and then another retro pitching wedge (51 or 52 degrees)

So the make up would be PW, PW, PW, SW    (Titleist CB is 47 degrees, Eye 2 was about 51 degrees, Wilson FG17 was about 52 Degrees)

This question is easy, do what I do, 48pw, 52gw, 56sw, 60lw and a 64lw. Isn't that what everyone does?
