As much as I loved my TEE EX9 as it was a beast off the tee, my G400 3w is a little better off the dirt and almost as long off the tee; BUT I had to reshaft it with a Tensei ck blue as for whatever reason, the Alta was just no bueno for me.

Why the M2 2016 vs. M2 2017?

It's better in almost every way. Feel, sound, flight. When I caved in my 2016, the replaced it with a 2017. I got rid of the 2017 shortly after.

How does M2 2016 stack up with M4?

I hate 3 woods. Hate. Cannot hit off turf and hadn't bagged one in 4 seasons.

Swapped to a titleist setup this year and on a whim picked up a 917F2 to test. Weight toward the toe and suddenly is the best stick in the bag.

I've hit everything on the market and nothing can beat the consistency and sound of my titleist F2. Some are longer, none are better.

Titleist TS3 - 10.5 - HZRDUS Smoke Black 60
Titleist 917F2 - 15*, Diamana S+ LTD 80
Titleist 716 T-MB 3-4-iron - KBS C-Taper 130
Titleist 716 T-MB 5-PW - DG AMT
Titleist 718 AP2 50* - DG AMT
Titleist SM7 55* S-Grind - DG AMT
Titleist SM2 59.12* - DG Tour Issue

I really like Callaway 815 Alpha 14*.  I have speeder 665 stiff, tipped 1/2" playing at 42.5" 30 gram weight in front set at 15 degrees.   This is a great club for me. 225 carry with 3200-3300 spin.  Most three woods I spin out of control and they go no where.  Swing speed on trackman around 98mph.
This is what my Son uses. He has driver speed of 116+.
It seems his has a Diamana D+ shaft in it.
Fairway or teebox, it's  great.
Myself, a 2014 Big Bertha works. I can't hit it wrong, fairway or tee.
My Son is looking at the new Rogue series woods and driver.

Total distance I have never hit any 3 wood longer than the Callaway XR16 but it isn’t the most accurate/consistent. All around playability, I still give the nod to the Titleist 913F.

Have only played/still have each of the tour heads and both are very long and straight.
M4 launches a touch lower.

But my X2Hot 4 & 7 woods are unbeatable.

I looked for a three most of this year, not consistent with most, finally gave up and then tried a TEE EX10 Beta 16.5. I put my Rogue Silver 70S shaft in and it is just as long as the three's I tried, more consistent, and somewhat workable. For me at least it was the best solution to the three wood dilemma. FWIW I swing a driver between 100-105.

Good luck.

Hardest spot in the bag to settle on.  The last real good 3 wood I had was a V steel.  SLDR wasn’t bad but I wasn’t consistent with it.

Good luck in your search!

Cobra F8 is the best I've hit. Something about those rails when hitting it out of the turf. I have no fear of hitting down when needed. It's also my most consistent club off the tee BY FAR! I give up a little distance, but when I need to hit a tight fairway or I'm not hitting my best, that's the club I'm grabbing.

For me it's my Vapor Fly - I have fallen out with the shaft at the moment (too soft and spinny) so currently trying new ones, but the head works that well for me I'm going to stick with it, despite the pain of finding Nike fairway adapters.

If I had to replace it I'd go for one of TS2/3, M3/4 or the F8+.

I hit some bombs with a 17 M2 but find I am more consistent with a 917 F2. Dont hit it as far but fits my gapping and suits my eye.

King LTD is great if you have some speed/launch. Very low spin, very forgiving, and an amazing feel. Also I love that I can play it shorter and easily add weight via the space port

GBB DBD 816 4 Wood at 16* - adjustable 15* to 18*.

I have not tried the new ones but the last I tried was the Callaway Epic Sub Zero and that was amazingly good, long and forgiving.   Compact and nice sound, just did not like the green and composite look.
Bridgestone J715 B3 10.5* Driver, Callaway Alpha 816 4 Wood, Mizuno CLK 22* Hybrid, Miura CB 57 4-PW, Miura 51 and 57 Wedges, TM Ardmore 3 TP Copper Putter

I actually didnít like the Rogue when I tried it. I love my Cobra F7 3 wood. I do like the Rogue hybrid though.
