Three of the best courses in the world in one tournament!

I guess it's the Euro version of the AT and T?

I do enjoy watching it though, the courses usually look a bit different this time a year, as opposed to what we see in July.  Would love to play these...maybe some day...

I used to attend every year when it was the 3 man team format. A crowd of maybe 12-15k, almost all real fans. Old Course only. Pro Am on the Wed then au revoir celebs. Now ruined by the likes of DJs, second rate actors and pop stars. I have zero interest in watching 6 hour rounds and celebs getting stuck in bunkers.

I am so excited to watch this every year!  LOL, if my wife notices any shots from St. Andrews she'll be on about the hole she birdied and grabbing her scorecard - totally out kicked my coverage 30 years ago!

This year we'll get to see the best players in the world, as recently crowned! ;-)

I am taking a wrx sabbatical from anything resembling a thread involving Ryder Cup/France (really mean it this time, lol) and looking forward to getting up early on Thursday, fixing up some coffee and a little breakfast and watching golf with the puppy (he loves it when I watch Euro - otherwise he watches from my chair in the mornings and I listen to Morning Drive from the dining room table before work).

Don't blame you Hawk, I remember not logging onto work for about 5-6 years because of the nonsense that was spouted after the 2008 Cup. It's not been as bad this time but you could see it going that way at points!

Probably not the thread to bring it up, but The Old Course is the best experience in golf. Easily not the best course (2 in St Andrews are better), but also the best place to enjoy 18 holes.

Some say the New is better than the Old, those are my only frames of reference and look forward to trying others. The New was great, the Old was awesome. Sure, the experience was a huge part of it, but I felt like the New was pretty special ground as well. Wish I could play them all the time. For me the Old is one fine course and has a lot going on. New was a little tougher, part of that was me, but still thought the Old was a better course. Just my opinion from very limited experience in St. Andrews.

I am tempted to head down Sunday to watch really depends on whether it is nice enough to golf at my course, if it is then I won't but forecast is big winds for here so looking more likely I am there to watch.

I played the New last week was great fun, was supposed to play the Old as a guest and another quest joined us so my member friend didn't have enough points left for the Old. I still had a great day on a great golf course.

The New is certainly less open than the Old, I did duck hook a drive and played a shot from the Old onto the New.

My friends sister bought a town house in St Andrews to rent out and for the three years doing so Tyrrell Hatton (two years running) and Thorbjørn Olesen have won the tournament but this year its a different golfer

Well just tell us the name man, so we can get some bets down!

It was meant to be Branden Grace but i found out this morning he canceled because his family isn't coming over and he thinks its too big for him and his caddie

Ooft! I hope that they took a deposit.

£4,000 up front non refundable, these guys have way too much money

Need to get myself a house down in St Andrews!

It sleeps up to 8 people comfortably and its for 7 days so when you break it down its not as drastic as it looks. Tyrrell Hattons management after he won it for the second time for a combined earnings of over £1.4 million wanted to book it instantly last year but demanded it should be at a reduced rate

I love watching this event every year. But having just played these three in August, it will be even an even greater thrill this year.

Really looking forward to it.

I hope people that watch the coverage take the time to see all the little stories they do about St Andrews. Its an even more amazing place than we thought. If you go, STAY for a while. Dont be one of those groups that rips through and only stays one or two nights. We stayed for 8 days and it wasnt enough.

Oh and if you think there arent enough nearby courses to hold your attention for 8 days - we played 7 rounds and I think I have 11 courses on our list of places we *didnt* get to. :taunt: :taunt: :taunt:

Ha, that sounds like Hatton. Really have a hard time taking to him and his petulant attitude. In one way I am glad that Ryder Cup is over so I don't even need to consider cheering for him for at least the next year and fifty one weeks.

This and Pebble Beach are the chances to see CEO's hit shanks... No, seriously its a pleasant tournament to follow. Old Course is of course Old Course, but also I've learned to enjoy Carnoustie and not least Kingsbarns, which is a course quite high up on my bucket list of courses to play. Kind of hard to follow the first three days. The finish on sunday with 17 and 18 is of course a given success.
