Golf marketing is so cringe-worthy when it comes to club and shaft names. The "removing the vowel to make the word look cool" thing is about as "with it" as using a "z" to end a word instead of an "s". Ugh.

Callaway Big Bertha Fusion Heavy driver, 12.5 deg.
Srixon Z F45 4 wood, 16 deg.
Callaway Great Big Bertha Heavenwood, 20 deg.
Srixon Z H45 4 hybrid, 22 deg.
Cleveland Mashie 5 hybrid, 26 deg.
Mizuno JPX 850 Forged, 6 - GW
Cleveland CG16 54 deg.
Cleveland 588 RTX 2.0 CB 58 deg.

Millenials who can afford CNCPT irons are the worst.

The irony here is - my guess - some of the same people that love these would drill a company like TM if they released the same thing.

My guess is some of the drilling that you speak of (if it was TM) would be because it’s TaylorMade’s 26th new iron set in the last 2 years and pretty much the exact club they’ve already put to market only with different badging...

...And a “cool new must-have attribute that will lead to better everything!!!!” that we’ve all seen over and over and over.  RIBCOR, SpeedFoam, Twist-Face... it goes on and on and on... where they tell us this month it’s speedfoam that is a must have and next month it’s something else.

With all that said— and everyone knowing that I’ve been a Titleist fan since I was 13 years old these look to be a “HARD NO” from me as well.  They don’t look great from the parts you can see, I dislike the name— especially hate CNCPT, SLDR, etc where they shorten the name by taking out the vowels.  It looks very tacky to me.  These may end up being better playing than they look but as of now... NO.

Wow. These are stunning.

Chisag: the back of the club can reveal a lot. It can tell how much cavity there is/ how much perimeter weighting. It is also the branding and that is what people see on TV. From the looks of these it is either a muscle back or hollow cavity design.

Looks nice. As others have guessed, maybe this is Titleist's answer to the P790.

I never really liked the name of the T-MB. It wasn't very marketable, and maybe that's why I don't see much buzz about them outside of golf forums.

If the Titleist branding was placed on the back, and the CNCPT was on the hosel, I'd be all over these.

The way they are....no thanks.

One could easily argue the that the P790 is TM's answer to the T-MB.

Wonder why there’s a ton of buzz about the 790s and hardly anybody gives the T-MBs a second thought?

They look like the golf club equivalent of an 80's concept car (which was presumably the inspiration for the design and name). And just like those cars, only the most gullible would buy them.

I wonder what the response would have been if it said Proto instead.

Lest we forget, Ping were probably the first to do this naming convention with the Anser.  The story is that they wanted to call it the "Answer" but couldn't fit that entirely on the back bumpers of the putter. They deleted the W since it would read the same.

Maybe Titleist just ran out of room on the back of the iron? Tongue firmly in cheek, but just pointing out this isn't entirely a new thing.

I think they are quite attractive if you could rip off the entire badge that the hideous vowel lacking name is on.

It looks like that name plate is just stuck on there.  Such a shame.  It’s always hard to envision a bunch of seasoned golf execs sitting in a meeting room thinking that giant badge and name is a good idea.   How does that happen?  Havent they ever heard of a focus group?

CNC-PT is a play on words, a bit more clever than a vowel-less name

CNC meaning milled

PT.. what ever you want

But together, you have a name.

I don’t care for the font, but considering it’s a prototype, they will probably get it in front of a focus group, since that’s where you present concepts before they go to market.

PT use to mean something for Titleist back in the day. I doubt it stands for “pro trajectory” in these clubs though.

Seems like people are forgetting that these are a concept iron.

How many concept cars would you look at it and instantly think, yeah that looks good I must have them? This is an extended test that Titleist can do with the various concepts. They are not going to release them to the mass market (they sold what 1,500 set of the C16). They'll use them them to see what works, what doesn't work, what people are ready for, what people aren't ready for and then I'd be sure that you will start to see the successful elements beginning to be incorporated into future AP lines.
