Club Championship over the weekend. I haven't been this ill-prepared for a tournament ever in my life. Batting it all over the place. Switching shafts last week. Working on a few things. Hit 2 greens last Saturday. Just blah. But, I entered, and I played. A few bad breaks and stupid things on Saturday put me in the first group out. No pressure whatsoever...just go play golf. My buddy was in the lead after the first round, so hung with him for a beer or two to get his head right. And calmed down. Told him to throw up another 75 and make someone else go low. He had a lead, so another 75 means 72 or better to leapfrog. Welp...another kid shot 67 with a double! Had 8 birds. 82-67 to win by 5. And the 6-time defending champ finished 4th. (The one from the big break.) At least I got to play with a guy that shot 77 yesterday, so that was fun to watch. And I wasn't as trashy yesterday, so finished 7th out of 11 in the flight, moving up from 10th. Meh. Here's to fishing! Caught a nice small mouth last night.

I was looking into Snedeker's win this weekend.

Talk about a guy who can roll it, but has an old beater. He's almost always top 25 in SG: Putting, with occasional forays into the top 5.

Look at this thing. . .

Posted Image

I always think of him as winning when he strikes the ball pretty well, but goes super natural with the flatstick (13 PGA wins, $35M career winnings). But, I looked into his stats from this weekend. He was second in SG: Tee to Green, most of that work done on approach shots and around the green, not off the tee. But, he averaged 315 off the tee for the week even though his swing speed is 111 and carry distance is 270. You can win $35M swinging at 111mph (Zach isn't in reality much slower). You need to get down to the Jim Furyks to find guys with truly anemic swing speeds.

I know people always say that about the pros -- that they get 30/40 yards of roll. That can be an exaggeration, but sometimes it's really true. I've noticed it on my course this year. I'm knocking legitimate strokes off the cap for the first time all year and I don't know if it is attributable to much more than having 8 irons into greens lately instead of 6 irons.

On Sned's 59 on Thursday, he hit 15 greens and averaged 1.267 putts per GIR. That's pretty nice. But, it's actually more attributable to hitting it close than rolling it great (it usually is). In that round, he gained 7.244 strokes T2G and "only" 2.4 strokes putting, which is good, but he gained 2.3 strokes putting on Friday and only gained about 2.7 strokes on the field.

Snedeker is a great putter, though. That was going to be my original point. And he gets it done with a beat up old odyssey, and a forward press pop stroke that literally has recoil built into it, and almost definitely decels at the ball. Look at this pre-round drill (he misses a ton of these). . .

Compared to this. . .

I was just reading the storyof the guy who had his finger bitten off (someone mentioned it in Thread 11).

The guy who had his finger bitten off said it sounded like someone chewing on a Dorito. Direct quote. I think Frito-Laytm would be missing a serious opportunity if they don't capitalize on this.

The biter said he wound up at the bottom of a pile and had to bite it. The biter said that the group in front was very slow and appeared to be cheating, so I guess they deserved it.

In a shocking update, it was revealed the biter had been drinking.

GTT : Moar AirWolf discussion.

Here's standard Wolf:

https://www.thoughtc...ng-game-1561037

And the AirWolf mods, per City:

It's essentially like Wolf, but if you call AirWolf, Borgnine, or most anything else while your ball is in the air, you 4X the multiplier. 3X multiplier for going lone wolf after everyone hits. Sandies, greenies, birdies. You can wait until everyone hits and then call solo wolf, moon wolf, AltSean, or Helicopter-Helicopter but you can't call "Lone Wolf" or it's a point for everyone else.

Why 3x multiplier for after everybody hits, instead of the standard 2x?  Should it be this?

Air Wolf - Called in air - 4x
Lone Wolf - Called after ball hits, but before anybody else tees off - 3x
Solo Wolf - Called after all players have hit - 2x

When we used to play back in the day, often times we made it so you have to pick your partner while their ball is in the air.  Adds a little bit of interest.  On long holes, it gives you less time to think about your decision.  You've see a good drive in the air from the second or third player, and you're sort of compelled to make a snap judgement.  It can also be funny on par 3s if the wolf sees a ball flying at the hole and calls a partner, only to see it come up short or long of the green.

Another thing we used to do was have an even higher multiplier if you went alone before even hitting.  It could be

Alpha Wolf - go alone before even teeing off - 5x

The multipliers multiply all bets, not just the hole, right?

Sandies, greenies, and birdies are for individuals, yes?

Are eagles 2 dots?

I think we should come up with some of our own Hive inspired junk.

Gangster Drop - When you gangster drop your ball on the tee box (has to be on the first drop.  you can't re-drop until you like your lie) and make par or better you get a dot

TVO11 - When you 4-putt, you have to give everybody else a dot

DoD - When you hit driver off the deck and make par or better, you get a dot

BadDomes - If somebody else hits during your swing at any point during the hole and you make par or better, you get a dot

We actually considered that going AirWolf at 4x and going Solo Wolf after everyone hits at 3X wasn't enough of a difference to inspire enough Airwolfs (even though we had like 4 of them).

I thought we needed more negatives, like 4 putting, leaving a ball in a bunker, various other things.

We did not multiply everything. It depends how "out of hand" you want to allow it to get.

E.g I went Airwolf on 8 and made birdie and greenie. We made it 4+1+1.

Also, when Domes went Airwolf on 10, it halved. The next hole was going to be worth 4+1, not 4+4. Eagle went lone wolf on that hole for 3, and I birdied. Under multiplication, that hole would have been 4x3, and another 12 for the birdie. And Eagle lost to all 3 of us. So at a buck a point, he would have lost $72 on that hole alone. Even at .50, he would have lost $36.

Lastly, "guy who shoots 70 names the thread" was eagle's "joke" in thread 11. I was just throwing it in DaveChen's face for a riff. Let's get that straight on the first page here. That wasn't my thing.

Makes sense on multipliers only for the hole.

You did carry overs?  I've never played wolf with carry overs.

We played without when we played with Dom and it was considerably lamer. WAY better with carry-overs.

Kind of funny, and makes sense I guess.  It's a bit anti-climatic when somebody goes alone, and the hole halves, if there's no carry-over.  Kind of keeps the intensity up if that hole multiplier survives until it's cashed in on.

Who's the commish of AirWolf?  Domes?

Moar junk ideas:

The Blizzard - Only applicable for winter rounds, but when you make par or better after hitting out of snow at any point during the hole, you get a dot

The Kenty - When your drive ends up within one club length of the 150 marker in the fairway and you make par or better, you get a dot

I definitely want to play a "bugler". Farting when your ball is in the air. Par or better = dot.
