I have a Ping Anser Scottsdale becu.  How soft is the metal.  Can I go no headcover with it.  If I remember correctly the ping putters are pretty durable without a headcover.

Thanks!

You can (but shouldn't) go sans headcover.  While BeCu is durable, it's not impervious to dents, scratches, etc.

Don't.

You can always buy another Scotty, but replacing a Scotsdale BeCu is quite difficult. Take care of it as best you can.

I think that's a manganese bronze Anser.  Beat to $hit.

Yes, a mnbr Ping Anser, no copper hues in the metal.  Furthermore, Ping never made an original Anser in BeCu.  Only the Scottsdale Anser of later vintage and it did not have a sound slot IIRC.

As for headcovers on old Pings.  I use a head cover on classic Pings not to protect the putter, but to protect the other clubs in the bag from it.

My Pat Pend. BeCu Anser 2 with a few character marks.  It's the regular gamer.  Weighted up nicely with 25g's of tungsten powder down the shaft.

Are you sure that's BeCu?  Photo looks similar to a manganese bronze Anser.

Ping never made original Anser 2’s in mnbr. Why it’s tricky to discern the difference solely from pictures.

What you mean by “original”?
Form what I know (not a lot) the originals or real vintage, were from Scottsdale. Then newer putts are from Phoenix

You are indeed correct.  The very first Ansers were from Scottsdale (85282 zip, 1961 - 1966).  But no coppers were made there.  For the sake of preciseness in description, should have referenced the discussion as 'original' Phoenix Anser's.  Beginning with the KARSTEN CO 'Dales', mid-1966 with a 85029 zip.  Still no coppers produced.  All the early coppers, regardless of model, had a 85068 zip.

I asked this questions years ago because I played BeCu Eye 2 irons. On the rockwall scale, the actual hardness of stainless and BeCu are exactly the same. The only reason BeCu felt softer than stainless was because of the sound.
