Looks like the wind will be strongest in the afternoon on Thursday and strongest in the morning on Friday.  Huge disadvantage for those guys going late - early.

I see 15mph max, not big winds

It will be a big deal as the whole course is exposed and some of the elevated greens 15mph is the difference between holding the green or spinning back off the false fronts or rolling over the back. I doubt it stays at 15. the tide changes it jumps up to 25-30

We were informed today that the winds are going to be nasty and to look out for balls moving on greens.

thought today's Wednesday at the US Open on Fox was fabulous ... got to see several players playing tee shots/practice holes, interviews with different players (markedly different way Stricker/Rose can handle interviews compared to Koepka/Reed) & perspective from a golf course architect like Hanse ... good stuff ...

Shinnecock looks like a course I would absolutely love. My favorite local track, Raspberry Falls (G Player) is kind of? similar. I love courses that dont have trees. A wide open feel, but its anything but. I expect a star studded leaderboard. I also just remembered how great FOX does the US Open. Coverage starting at 930.

I dont understand Furyk and Els getting exemptions but not Goosen.Bizarre decision. The man has won 2 US opens and almost a third. hes the last champion at that venue. As a career reward and 2 x time champion he earned it. hes 49 and chances are he wont qualify for another one. Sometimes i dont understand the USGAs thinking on exemptions

I'm with you on that deal. Goosen's putting in 2004 was incredible, maybe the best ever on tricked up greens. Worth bringing him back at this venue, especially since he is a multiple winner of the event.
If I remember correctly, he 1 putted the final 6 greens. Thats awesome at any course to close a major, but on those greens that was insane.

Jaime Diaz and Tim Rosaforte should stick to print.

Thanks for responding Gator.

I will make one last offer and then they will go in my collection.

2 Trophy Club tickets ( VIP ) for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Price:  Buy me 2 ball markers and a US Open Flag from the U.S. Open store.

or
A handshake!

Cheers

ball markers are usually $6-14/each.
Flags are $24-40.

Thats tempting if I had a few to attend.
I'm already there th-sun inside the ropes so I'm good.

Tempting?  I hope so, I offered a handshake or 60$ ( 2 ball markers and flag ) for 850$ worth of tickets.

No, I meant for myself. Already have entire week access inside the ropes.

Don't have others that could go those days or would accept that most reasonable offer....either one.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Inside the ropes?  What time you teeing off?

In past when had time have walk many an 18 w/ pros in practice and tournament rounds. So yes have had tee times. No not as as an honorary observer.

Did you guys hear that the wind forecast is a bit ugly in the afternoon tomorrow from 2:00-6:00 PM? Calling for average wind speeds of 18-22 mph...He's playing a super spiny ball which I would have no chance at controlling in those winds. :censored2:

Isn't there any reporters or journalist at Shinnecock?

I try to read usopen.com, golfchannel.com, pgatour.com and our local golf newsplaces but nowhere can I find an article about US OPEN. I see sh*tloads of articles about Rorys, DJ's and TJ's. And Tigers. But zero zip nada about the course conditions, the weather wednesday, predictions for weather, the aura around the premises, speaking to Patrons and so on. I know all I want to know about Tiger and DJ.

Back in the hey days of Internet 10 years ago, the web was full of genuine journalistic articles when a Major came up. Giving info about what the journalist actually observed on and around the golf course.

You're a scratch at Raspberry Falls?  I'm in awe!

It's time to salute all of the "other" players who have made it to the US Open.  For many of the contestants, teeing off in a US Open will be the pinnacle of a life in golf.  I salute the Will Zalatoris, Franklin Huangs and Braden Thornberrys in the field.
On Sundays, I used to play hickory
