Now that they will allow you to tap down spike marks lets bring them back. Traction!!!!!! The only drawback is the damage they do to carpet in the club houses.

I'd love to wear them again, for about one round a year.  Soft spikes keep me anchored pretty well, I don't need metal spikes.

However, I do want to hear the sweet sound of metal spikes hitting the parking lot!

Just because the rules will allow tapping down spike marks, doesn't mean I want to do it on every putt.
Play Hard!

This. Plus, if you can't get enough traction from today's shoes, you may need a swing change.

And the less than fit crowd tend to tear up the greens by dragging their feet enough the way it is.  I can only imagine what metal spikes would do.

I've never found I needed more traction than I get even with the newer shoes, even the small "spikeless" styles

A few weeks back I heard the tell-tale sound of metal spikes on pavement and, sure enough, looked up and saw a guy probably in his early 60s walking past the clubhouse with some extremely old FJs and metal spikes.  It was definitely a flash-back to my high-school golf team years... I remember when my older brother converted his black/white saddle FJs to soft spikes, but I can't recall ever wearing metal spikes myself.
