Does he really need to issue a statement though?

After my round today I moved into the top 10,000,000 in the world.  Should I issue a statement?  It's a milestone.

Sorry, a retired plumber got hot on the back 9 at Turtle Bay in Hawaii with four pars to close out his round and knocked you back out.

Seriously? I thought it was a lock. Will have my PR team go into damage control.

With the GOATs rapid ascension up the ranks and his clear return to form, it figures to only be a matter of time before he reclaims his rightful spot on the throne.

Jack is ranked???

LOL, OP will ponder that on the throne tomorrow morning.

Maybe all the Jack fans here should substitute GOAT for his name in every post they make. That we can be subtle like many Tiger fans.

Maybe they really just figure if they say it enough it will come true. I don't know, maybe it's like a security blanket for them.

JT loves Limited field events. And I agree with bladehunter. JT lost that playoff before a shot was even hit.

Well he supplants Johnson, who has won 3 tournaments shortened to 54-holes, 5 WGCs with limited fields, and two Tournament of Champions with 30 in the field.

Since we don't have a true dominant player the OWGR has been meaningless lately. Congrats to JT anyway

Only on here can you have a player with JT's performance in the last 18 months which includes 7 wins, one being a major, along with winning the Fedex cup be portrayed as undeserving of the top ranking.

It would be interesting to see how long JT holds the #1 position for.

It is pretty close up the top these days with no clear dominating player.

so true..

the only no.1s i can really remember and who i felt really deserved it ever since the world rankings came up are Jack Nicklaus,Greg Norman and Tiger...

Honorable mention to Nick Faldo and maybe Tom Watson--was he ever no. 1? not sure now..JUST CHECKED AND TOM WATSON NEVER BECAME NO.1 SINCE THE RANKINGS STARTED IN1986.

the least deserving was Luke Donald...

but that's just me..

Oh wait, you were serious with your previous post? I read it as being sarcastic.

Do you actually think Thomas choked in Mexico?! He shot 64-62 over the weekend. He was 11 behind Sharma after 2 days. He had no right to be even in contention. He holes a wedge from the fairway on 18 (!), one of the most clutch shots of the year.

He choked it in the playoff? He bogeyed a hole that he also bogeyed in regulation, that had a clear advantage to a left-hander - it was a tight par 3 with a small landing area that clearly favoured a left-handed fade to a right-handed draw. It was also one week after he had just won in Florida...

And they pull me back in ......lol

Dead serious.  Look at his face when phil is finishing out. Then watch his body language etc through the playoff hole.  Phil was all over his head. The kid can go low. Yes.  But every time he plays with tiger ( the hero etc) or gets close against it with anyone not  Luke List he wilts.

What great battle has he out lasted someone of proven substance on ?

I agree with Jeff. I need to stop looking at this as the actual best player.  It's simply an AP poll if you will and will change with the next win.  Tiger simply spoiled us into believing that it denotes the actual best. Or guy most likely to win anyway given week.  He isn't that.

7 wins in the last year and a half. Please stop.

Lol.  Did I say no wins ?  Nope. And I'll add.  I do enjoy how how Patrick Reed is voted as an example of elite people he's faced and beaten head to head.  I'll agree with that one. Patrick is his Better.  Best count i have is Spieth at 6 with 1 being a major i last 2 years ....so looks like will pass back and forth several times in the net 6 months.....  Lets dont act like 7 wins and the lowliest major is blowing the world away.. Its isnt..

Blade you normally talk sense but you seem to be letting your dislike of him colour your judgement about his golf game. Sure he's smug and annoying, but I wonder about the criteria you're applying.

Whether he's 'outlasted' anyone significant seems rather arbitrary for starters.

But thats just me....lol

Ill try to be nice and leave it alone until next week or so when someone else takes it back

I will say that the anti climactic way he's getting it ( someone else faltering) is pretty fitting.  And I'll stop.  Hate isn't lovely on anyone. I don't now why this kid irks me. But he does.

Its isnt..

Sorry, I don't speak incoherence.

Congrats JT.  I can see how he rubs people the wrong way.  A bit brash, very confident, but I'm sure he's just a good a kid as his best friend JS.

And please, I'm as much as a TW fan as much as the next guy.  Every thread doesn't need to include his name.  Give Justin his due for as long as he has the #1.  He earned it and deserves it.

T, if all (or even half, or maybe a quarter, a tenth?  more than just you!!) the Tiger fans were as rational as you he could be included in all the discussions. Because while  there is obviously no debating what he's done, so many still go so far overboard with their fandom (a synonym for hero worship) that we can't have a calm, rational discussion about him.

We did!

And you're right Blade, he's the driving force and is going to be a (the) main topic in most tour threads. I don't have a problem with that. Like this thread, it's about the #1 rated player, Tiger is pertinent to any discussion in regards to #1. Always will be, just like Norman, or even Donald will be.

Its just the constant over the top stuff.  "His RIGHTFUL place at the top"?  C'mon, did the Gods up on Olympus decree that he's #1 in perpetuity?  It's not "his" place.

It's sometimes tempting to just drop into a thread that's been going strong for a few pages just to post:

"Tiger Woods"

Nothing else. And quietly move on. The breakdown would be inevitable. I envision the map of the United States in the movie Outbreak. This is what things will look like in 24 hours.....in 36 hours.....48 hours.
