I started playing 44.5 last season - new standard for me. I was in a R11/Rogue Silver 70 last year - added 7g of weight.

This year I'm in an M2 with Black Mamba 60, tipped 1", and 7g additional weight. Very happy so far!

For those playing driver shorter are you still playing 3 wood at stock length? TM is at 43.25" for example on the M1 3 wood.

I'm 6'4" and just cut my driver down to 44.75". Played the first round with the cut driver today and didn't miss a single fairway. Even the poor hits went straight and pretty far. I'm a fairly average golfer and breaking 90 is a luxury for me (86 today, very pleased with that!) so not missing the fairways is a HUGE booster. With good shots (plenty of them today) was seeing parts of the fairways I don't usually go to.

I have for 20yrs.....love it and beat it like IKE. I hit it far already so accuracy is a premium, there was a time about 8yrs ago I was chasing yrds and it was horrendous going 45.25 /45.5 just because it was longer sometimes. Confidence is amazing at 44.5 and ye weight it up properly and make sure the shaft isnt counterbalanced so you add the right amount then watch out short grass :)

went up to 44 1/4" with TP6HD at D6, woah, seemed to get better distance than 43.75, but that's not scientific at all.

Wrote above that I just cut my driver to 44.75" with great initial results. Don't carry a 3w as for average golfers it tends to generate more trouble than it solves but my R11S 5w is 42". The stock length was 42.75".

I got fitted this year and ended up at 44.75" for my driver. Don't notice any lost distance and I am finding more fairways. Glad I finally got fitted.

For those going 44.5 on the driver at what length are you playing your 3 wood? Have you trimmed it a similar amount?

+1 on the 44.5 driver length.  Was scared to do it at first, but it is so much more consistent and no loss of distance for me.  I am +1/2 on my irons as well.

Driver at 44. I don’t play a 3 wood on the fairway so I’m carrying the Aeroburner mini to hit off the tee on narrow fairways and then a 21 degree Callaway utility for the fairway.

I used my longer driver shaft at 45" and it was a disaster. I did not realize how much easier 44- 44.5" was to hit until I tried 45" again. Learned my lesson the hard way. Going back to 44-44.5 from now on.

Cut mine down 1.5" to 44". My typical drive is now longer due to far more center face hits. The increased confidence also allows me to swing more freely and thusly faster

My speed is the same at 44.5 and 45. However, I don't have any heel strikes at 44.5 and find it's easier to control the ball at that length.

Agree as I play same length, just saw a smaller more consistent ball marking on face of driver, no loss in length or swing speed, and as little as it seems much more confidence standing over ball

I hit my xr16 quite well for my cap, it's 45.75" in length. I usually choke down a bit, probably 1/2". Part of me would like to trim it a bit, but there's no going back once you trim it. I don't want to mess it up. It's easy to trim, but getting it right is my worry.

My driver is 45”, but I grip down to about 44-44.5”. I’m way more consistent with it at that length. My 3 wood length is about 42.5”, and I grip down on that as much as I do with my driver.

All my current drivers in the rotation are 'tour' models and they are all around a hair under 45. I find that as they were designed to play under 45 they don't have the SW issues you can have from shortening.
Edit: they are all pre 2010 drivers, back when tour models were shorter than standard. Not sure if this is still the case.

I’ve played 44.75 for a long time but I’m going to start going a little shorter. I’m thinking 44.5 with a heavier shaft. I’ve also used a 42.5” 3 wood forever. I’ve tried 42” but I think I get too steep with it that short and I have a hard time getting it up.

They do have drugs for that I've heard...
Hey I'm just trying to help! :)
I knew as soon as read his post that the poor bloke opened himself up for that one....

My 905R and My 913D2 are both 44.5". I'm 6'2, but it's more comfortable for me with distance being about the same. I have the heavier weight in the 913, but I don't on the 905 and I don't really see much of a difference in head weight.
