After 2+ months of searching I finally was able to acquire the elusive Tensei Pro Orange 70TX. I brought it to my club builder thinking it was going to SW way less than my current driver but was shocked to see it came out almost identical (same length).

For reference: Current set up - Ping G400 LST - With Ping Tour 65X from the G30 (made by UST I believe). SW D6.2

I thought adding the Pro Orange would bring the SW down to a reasonable D3-4 but I was wrong.

I realize the Ping tour shaft is also a CB shaft but I was under the impression the Orange was more CB biased and would bring the SW down. Anyone else have a similar experience? I realize I can just change the weight in the Ping head but Ideally I wanted a "heavy head" with a reasonable SW.

Further, played one round yesterday with the shaft and it is a beast. Really can go after it without fear of a hook. I am liking it so far even though it feels like a sledge hammer at the current weight.

Tensei Pro Orange is actually pretty minimally counterbalanced.

Not to mention the G400 LST @ 208gr is a pretty heavy head, I imagine that's why every Ping G400 shaft option is a CB shaft.

Awesome combo you have there!

Playing at 45.25. Did not add any weight. I think its just a heavy head. The weight in the head is 10gm so I think I can buy a lighter one to bring it down but one of the main reasons I wanted the orange (besides the fact that all the cool kids have one) was to play a heaver head with a lower SW. I was surprised/disappointed how it weighed out.

My G400 LST swing weights at D4  with both my Tour 65 and Hzrdus Yellow shaft at 45" with the head weighing 203 grams (no adapter). The higher balance point of these shafts can only do so much, before you have to cut the shaft shorter if you're playing with a heavy head. Any shaft with a low balance point would probably be swing weighting at D8 with your current head. So it is helping. Don't know if you're dead set at 45.25, but shaving off that .25" would help get it a little closer to D4 without it feeling much shorter.

I have PO V2, which I think is less counterbalanced than the V3, and found the same thing.  Swing weight did not change relative to a HZRDUS Yellow (also counterbalanced) or my old Aldila Tour Green.

For further reference... I have an Orange that I play in my Epic head which weighs 205 grams without adapter. It also swing weights at D6 at just a hair under 45.25" that you play at.

Golfshaft reviews measured the balance point of the Orange 70TX at 3.4", which is the highest I recall ever seeing. The Hzrdus Yellow is 2.4" in the same comparable weight. So I don't think there are many shafts out there with a higher balance point than the Orange.

Never heard of the Ping Tour shaft being counter balanced.  I thought the Tour shaft was based on the Elements Chrome which is definitely not counter balanced.

Everybody says the Ping Tour shafts are based on the Elements Chrome series, so I'll believe it, but per the UST Elements Chrome site that line has a "Counter balance design to produce manageable swing weights for today’s heavier heads".  So either the Tour shafts are counter balanced, or they are a non-counter balanced version of Elements Chrome?

Yeah... $380 would be an impossible find, not sure what they are talking about. It's everywhere for ~$420-450 right now.

There actually used to be quite a few available at that price but it seems the adoption on tour has driven prices up.

I actually just picked up the LST / PO combo and waiting for it to arrive.

I believe Sergio adds lead tape under the grip to counterbalance. Has anyone tried this approach?

You're going to love it. Not sure what length you play your driver at, but you'll likely want to add some weight to the head. The Ping heads are naturally a tad heavier though, so shouldn't have to add much. They're easy to hotmelt due to having access to the inside of the head through the weight port. Or you can get the alternate weights for pretty cheap. I really think the lead tape under the grip would be overkill. The PO has probably the highest balance point of any shaft on the market according to the website that measures that sort of thing.

I'm coming from an Epic Standard (non-SZ) in which I've tried AD-TP, AD-DI (3W length), Hzrdus (stock), Evenflow Black ("made-for" version).

I'm REALLY hoping this helps get spin under control as I play Harding Park here in San Francisco regularly, and end up leaving a divot about 6" in front of my ball 50% of the time.

Before anyone correctly chimes in "that's a swing issue - no driver is going to fix that" - yes - I know there's no magic bullet, but I have more money than time at this point (which isn't to say I have money - but rather zero time) - and as a 6'3 guy who's swing is "a work in progress" at best, it seems worth a shot.

I'm pretty excited.

Strike location is still the most important factor for spin even with the negative AoA it sounds like you have. If your swing is bottoming out that far in front of the ball then it would seem likely that the club is still quite a ways back from the "bottom" of the swing when you're making contact which would tend to induce pretty low/thin contact I would imagine. You will always struggle with spin if that is the case as low strikes = spinny strikes. Get that ball coming out of the middle/top of the face and you'll be fine.

Understood. I actually did a Trackman fitting showed my AoA as 0 degrees, but I don't really believe that's the case as I believe I was swinging flatter than usual given the indoor space.

In any case, I'm excited to give it a shot!

Im up in Napa and have played Harding a couple times.... I dont think any ball rolls out there. That place is always so damp. Great course though!
