Decided to make this it's own thread so it's easier for people to navigate rather then sift through a bunch of pages in my WITB.

Testing has begun............. :busted_cop: :busted_cop: :busted_cop:

And yes that butt sticker does say "Pure745 doesn't have it" :taunt: :taunt:  Inside joke

The boys at Veylix and Xphlexxx have decided they need my expert opinion before they go any further with development (smartest thing they could have done :D ).  So without much warning I got a package in the mail with a few prototypes and the new Veylix Rome 888 (Matte Finish) which looks amazing.   More info coming soon but I hit them for the first time today can honestly say I saw a first in my driver in one specific category.  I won't say too much as I need to trim to length and get on a real course with real balls but let the games begin :superman:

*******Also please note i am testing both Xphlexxx prototypes first and waiting on another adapter in the mail for the Veylix Rome 888.  As soon as i get it I'll get that build up as well.

Here are some pics from the build and just before I hit some balls at the range.  I left room on both shafts to make some adjustments based on the short range session.  Always good to leave the room when testing as it's easier to take away then to add ;)  Specs will be posted once i'm done building them out and adjustments are made

The F7 Modena is the driver shaft and F9/ black on black is the fairway wood.  It's hard to see in pictures but the all black F9 has "Xphlexxx" up and down the shaft in black out letters.  Looks sick in person.

Can't wait to see how these compare to the agera. Loved the old matrix f7m2 and hopefully these improve on that.

Wonder if the one that says F7 LTD is based off the old F7M2 LTD profile.  I know they haven’t told you much about them, but that’s what the naming reminds me of.

Being that the guy making these made the F7m2 I'd say that's a safe bet.  New materials allow for some big improvements in feel and performance.  All the shafts back then were low grade carbon wherea's now these shafts specifically are made with 40 and 46ton fiber.  I will say based on initial testing the F7 Modena is very active but not loose.  Very different feel to me then Agera.

What kind of profile is the Rome 888?  When people say "that would make a good fairway shaft" it usually means it's like a blueboard profile.  Also, most heads now are slightly heavier, I have had trouble getting heads light enough to play plus half inch and have room to hotmelt.  Is the Rome counter balanced or tip heavy, or neutral?

The Agera graphics won't match my mudflaps.  Hopefully they figure this out before the production release.

How is flight/spin compared to agera? Your protos are 275 cpm, so XX. Just looking for preliminary thoughts. Is it worth switching when these come out?

I know enough to be dangerous at this point but I believe the new 888 has higher ton fiber that's blended with the 40ton and a slightly different tip section.  I believe the result is a new profile that launches a little higher and keeps spin low.  There is more to it then that but that's as much as i know at this point.  They also did more but it's a little above my pay grade.

Also Because it has a starting weight of 80g i'm going to try it in my driver first and see how it goes.  I prefer a high 70g driver shaft so what the hell might as well try it in the driver.  The new adapter should arrive today so end of week to get it on the course.

The F7 Modena Proto (so far) launches higher and feels more active/smoother.  I don't want to go to much into it until i get more time under my belt but those are my initial impressions.  Spins like Agera but doesn't feel like the Agera.  Modena kicks hard and leaves the face with speed ;)

Hmm, that F9 LTD looks interesting considering my last 2 driver shafts were 8M2 X flex and now a Kiyoshi Black 75 X-Flex. Very interested in seeing numbers, or if you want to get some numbers I'd be happy to take delivery and head to my fitter and provide trackman numbers.

Any chance of getting heavier models?  Something in the 100g range for fairways and hybrids?

I have access to a trackman I just haven't had the time yet.  I'm interested as well.  If you liked the 8m2 (which is a GREAT profile) then you are in business.  These are like the 8m2 with exotic materials.

Yes, the F9 Modena I believe will end up in the 90g range.  I did hear of a hybrid in the 100g+ range not sure on the time frame.  Veylix is going with more traditional weighted shafts while Xphlexxx is going for the tried and true (but forgotten) heavier weighted shafts for those who like to play a sub 45" driver and sub 43.5" 3 wood's.  So far I've tested the F9 the most (due to time constraints) and I'm really liking what i'm seeing.  I'll get into that more later after another few rounds.  So far though, mid/high flight and LOW spin off the tee.  Off the deck it's oddly easy to hit.  Not too many fairway wood shafts have a similar launch off the deck and tee like that.

That's a great shaft.  My main issue with the Rome in driver was the 688 was the only option until recently.  Through trial and error I've realized a shaft in the mid 70's is ideal for me.  The F7 Modena prototype is high 60's and a little light for me but i'm not letting that stop me from reporting back.  I believe it will end up being in the low 70's but they might be debating on doing a 60g version as it's so popular in drivers nowadays.  We shall see i guess.

On a side note I got the new ping adapter today so the Rome 888 will be built up tomorrow after work then i should be able to do testing Friday then i'm playing Saturday morning in some money games :D  I also have arranged for a friend who plays on the mini tours to try the F7 and give me his feedback.  He plays the Graphite Design Tour AD DI 6TX and the Modena F7 has a simliar feel to it but much tighter at the same time (hard to explain).  In either case he plays a 60g shaft and roasts the ball so I'm interested to get his thoughts.

The pic in the middle is before i cut either shaft.  You can see the quality of the tip section, top is F7 Modena and bottom is F9 Modena

Been swamped all day but did manage to get out and play some of the shafts in money games which is really where it counts.  Also had a mini tour player who's getting ready for Q school hit both prototypes today and to say it went well would be an understatement.  More info on that early next week as more testing is going to happen and it's Mothers Day weekend so by me even being on wrx right now is highly dangerous haha :D

UPDATE:

As of today i got 3 rounds and 3 practice sessions in with the F7 and F9 Modena's.  The Veylix Rome 888 has less time due to me having to wait for an adapter so I'll hold on that for now as I need more time and to do some trimming to playing length based on what i'm seeing.

Testing has been done with a G400LST 8.5 (set to 7.5*) and F9 is in the G400 14.5 (set to 13.5)

Testers

Me:
Me, HCP +1, SS 115-118 on course, higher if i swing all out but rarely happens on course, Shorter aggressive transition.  Positive attack angle (avg around +4)

Tester 2: Mini Tour player
HCP +5, SS low 120's, Longer smoother transtion (think parallel), Positive attack angle +1.

F7 Modena (G400lst 8.5): Tipped 1/2" playing 45"

Me:

Trajectory - Mid to High depending on shot shape.  Avg 14* same as my KK DC XT
Spin - Low without a doubt.  Saw around 200-300 rpm's lower then my KK DC
Feel - Active, think Tour AD DI on steroids and no left and high ton carbon fiber
Dispersion - No left, no right. Ball goes straight
Distance - Slightly longer then my KK DC XT but a few yards nothing insane.

Mini Tour player (didn't get numbers just yet but he saw what he needed to)

Trajectory - Mid launch
Spin - LOW
Feel - Active, think Tour AD DI on steroids and no left and high ton carbon fiber (he felt the same way especially since he plays the DI)
Dispersion -ZERO left, dead straight or high cut based on what he wanted to hit.
Distance - Significantly longer then his M1/ DI setup, 10-15yds on average.
Thoughts on shaft - "wow what is this"

F9 Modena in G400 14.5 (13.5) (tipped 1/2" playing 42.5")

Me:
Trajectory - High off deck, high off the tee.  Same trajectory off the ground or tee which is extremely strange but i love it.
Spin - Low-Mid
Feel - Active and has weight to it
Dispersion -Straight as an arrow
Distance - Same ballpark as what i'm used to
Thoughts on shaft - Great feel, active yet firm and will not go left unless you really do something wrong.  Oddest thing is seeing the same trajectory off the deck or tee.  I have zero problems hitting this off the deck which i thought might be an issue with the torque.  Ball is stupid easy to launch, i don't know how he did it to be honest.

Mini Tour player

Trajectory - MId-High off deck and tee.
Spin - LOW
Feel - Active and smooth but good weight to it
Dispersion - Extremely tight but no left and can hit high cuts off the deck
Distance -  Longer then he was getting with his m1/Fuji setup
Thoughts on shaft - "I love the weight of this shaft and the fact that I can hit high cuts off the deck but spin remains low with no ballooning"

Ok so my rundown is I think the shaft is a hit.  More people will like this then the Agera profile as the Agera feels firmer and most people shy away from that.  The Modena line is active but very responsive to any swing speed.  I went at it as hard as i could and it refused to go left unless i did something really stupid.  The shaft might remain in the high 60g range and to be honest i think it should or right in low 70's.  So many people playing a shaft in that weight range it makes sense to me to offer it there.  Personally I'd like it to be high 70's but i'm not the norm out there so no worries.

Mini Tour player : HIs thoughts?  Well for reference he played in the US Open qualifier on monday and missed the mark by 1 stroke.  We tested on course on Tuesday and after 7 holes he hit a drive that blew him away because of how far it went, he then looked at me and said " if i had this yesterday i would have shot 4 strokes lower." Surprised by that comment I asked if he was serious and he said "im dead serious how do i get these asap" So...... he literally has the F7 and F9 on the way from Xphlexxx with the exactly same CPM, Torque, and weight that I got.  He's home for a few months for some tourneys and to prepare for Q School and said these are a game changer for him.  He loved that he no longer had to use a cut swing to avoid left. He also loved that the harder he went the straighter it went but he could still hit a high cut on command when necessary.  As for the F9 he loved the trajectory he was getting from the deck and also from the tee and he loved the control he had over the ball.  His swing is very repeatable and the ball never ballooned on him from the tee even when he missed it.

Overall i wasn't expecting that response from him but he was murdering the ball and hitting every fairway in the process.  Im going to continue to test on course and actually get a few more good players i know to try it out and give me their feedback.  I like to see how these shafts react to different swings.

Any questions feel free to ask i'm going to get a few more rounds in with the Rome 888 Matte black and report back as well.  So far i really like what i'm seeing i just have to trim it to my final playing length now that i know how i have to set it up.  So more to come :pimp:

Yeah i agree.  Im trying my best to test the shaft and not test the shaft to see if its a fit for me (if that makes sense).  I think people will love this shaft while I kinda prefer the Agera profile and "firmer" feeling shaft and also the heavier weight as the one i have is 77g's.  I'm looking forward to getting the F7 and 9 in more hands around my area to get more feedback.  Different swings produce different results and I'd like to see who fits this shaft the best.
