Hi everyone,

Tom here, new golfer and new to the forum. Started playing golf last September for real. Always enjoyed the driving range and pitch n putt as kid but didnt really start playing until now at 31. I normally hit in the high 90s and basically try to get below 100/50 with some pars every time I get out.

I got my first legit birdie last Wednesday (no mulligan tee shots or anything) on a nice uphill par 3 at Galloping Hill in NJ. Great shot with my 8i to within 18''. Probably was the hardest, most nerve filled 18'' putt I ever had but im glad to finally get the birdie monkey off my back. Ive came close a few times before but always came up short or skimmed the hole.

So it took me a few months of playing for my first, how about others? I know its not a hole in one or anything but as a new golfer it still feels good! Was playing with my boss/mentor that days so I was glad to have him as a witness.

Tom

Congratulations.   Keep playing.   You will learn to love birdies and will be able to describe them vividly at the drop of a hat.  Over your golf career, this affection for birdies will often outweigh the love you have for certain family members.

I made a birdie the second time I played nine holes (and I don't even know 3 of my cousins).

I still remember my first birdie. It was on what was then the 3rd hole at Glen Abbey. I had downhill putt about 12-15 feet and made it, center cut. Hole was 143 yards, don't remember what club I hit but most likely an 8 iron.

It was my second year (first full year) of playing and my game was starting to improve at that point. Here's the hole via google... fun little shot over some water.

No idea since I started playing at a pretty young age. Birdies are still exciting even on easy par 5's or short par 4's.

Congratulations.

The benefit of birdies is that not only does your score go down a stroke, you've eliminated one more hole that you could blow up on!

I remember being out with my grandparents and hitting a 5 wood on a par 3 (I was about 9) to the fringe of the green and nailing a putt.  I felt like a million bucks.  Afterwards my grandfather took a 2x4, drilled a hole in it, and stuck a tee and the pink Flying Lady ball I was playing in it as a little trophy.  I‚Äôll never forget that.....

Made one this past weekend, only the 2nd one I've made since I got back into playing again last August. Actually holed out a chip and was quite thrilled. Never made any as a kid when I used to play, maybe a couple when I got back into it around 20-22, then again took 6-7 years away from the game until last fall. Hoping they become a more regular occurrence! Congrats on your first!

First year, about the 6 month mark. First two birdies in the same day.
First one was a par 4, decent drive, skulled an iron that somehow made it to the green. Really tough breaks, made the circus shot putt. Went crazy.
Second one was a decent drive, chunked second shot, then dunked a sand wedge from 75 yards. My buddy starts going crazy saying it went in. I had stopped looking bc I thought it was gonna fly the green.
Very memorable birdies, the day not so much. Probably shot 110 anyway.

First birdie (and still only birdie) was a few months into playing last year.  My first year of getting into the game seriously.  Short Par 3.  Narrow hole very woodsy.  Sand with bushes runs the length of the hole on the left, trees run down the right.  Hit one within a few feet and made the putt.  :)

Awesome TOM! Way to go. Enjoy the journey!

My little brother, lol heís 6Ē4í, he birdied the first hole he ever played.  Our dad had us practice on the range and short game area before letting us go on the golf course. So after Iím not sure how long we went out to play the par 29 course attached to the range where we started. Scott made a 2 on the first hole. I was 1 down. lol

So then we keep on practicing and getting better and after I donít know how long, dad takes us out the local muni. First hole on a ďbigĒ course and wouldnít you know it, after 1 I was 1 down again. Scott birdied the first.

Dudeís a birdie machine.

Congrats OP.

Had my first at a young age, but it would have been in the context of a round where I probably shot in the 60s for 9 holes, and honestly, I can remember the hole but not my age.  I'm sure I was excited, but slicing a ball and peeling it open and tearing out the rubber band stuff was a lot more interesting, as well as anything we could see swimming in the creek, lol.

Congrats, OP.

My first birdie was on a narrow par 4 with a lake beside the green. I had played probably 2 rounds of real golf and 10 or so on a par 3 course. I donít remember how long the hole was. I was 5 yards short of the green after 2, chipped a 7 iron, and it hit the middle of the flagstick and fell in.

It was really just luck, though. The first two shots were kinda bad and if it didnít hit the flagstick, it was 10-15 feet past. I donít remember my first non-luck birdie.

My first came on a short 450 yard par 5 (really short). I hit a good drive down the left side, hit a hybrid close to the green, chipped with a 7 iron to a foot and holed the putt. This was about two and a half years into my golfing career.

lol... I remember it very well. I was 7 years old, it was my first round I had ever played, and the second hole of that round. Short par 3 (under 100 yards from the reds), hit a 5 iron to the front edge of the green, 15 feet from the cup. Hit the putt dead center, practically ripped out the back of the cup. If it didn't hit the cup, it probably would have gone 10 feet past.

The look on my father's face as he 3 putted for a double bogey was one I'll never forget.

It took a few months but while struggling to break 100 my first season I was able to hit a straight 8 iron on a 130 yard par 3 onto the green and made about an 8 foot putt.  It's a great feeling - congratulations!

Played my 1st round of golf and never got a birdied as I had 3-4 chances but here is something I've never done. I chipped in for an Eagle on my 4th hole which was a par 4. I was shocked. My 2nd round I birdied the 1st 2 holes and last hole. Of to a decent start too bad work gets in the way of me golfing as much as I would like.
