This kid Garrett Barber is a member of my club, Bear Lakes CC in West Palm Beach, he's #1 Junior in the World and he is the real deal! I've seen a lot of talented player in my 50 years of Junior, Amateur and Professional golf and this kid is impressive.... I think he will be one of the great ones.

There are a a lot of talented players out there, but this kids golf maturity really is head and shoulders above the rest. I remember Phil Michelson when he was 13 and a stand out, he had an amazing short game, but when Phil was 18 he was not as mature yet as this kid. This year I have seen his potential greatness when he had 7 birdies and an eagle then I saw him struggle and shoot 75, but it's the round where he shot 75 that stood out more. He got a bunch of bad breaks and things were not going his way, but he handled himself like a champion and never ranted and raved about the bad breaks and you couldn't even tell by his demeanor that he was having a bad day. It's going to be fun to follow this kids journey to the top of the pro ranks.

I know who Garrett is and have followed him for a few years because I live in the area.  From what I have been told he has a solid chance at the next levels.  While he is a great player, he is not the #1 ranked junior player in the world.  Not like it matters, because he is a very fine player and has a bright future in front of him.

He is ranked #1 after he won the AJGA Tournament of Champions last November and then followed it up with the Jones Cup earlier in the year. He also just won the USGA Amateur 4-Ball with Cole Hammer.... not too shabby of a run the last 6 months. He is the real deal!

Nope.  JGS #3  AJGA #7   Jones Cup and USGA Amateur 4-Ball aren't factored into either of the rankings.  He is ranked #59 in the WAGR.

With that said, he may be the best junior player in the nation although the rankings definitely don't have him there.  The kid is a great player.

I guess the guy at my club who told me that was wrong, but the amateur rankings don't have the USGA 4-Ball in yet.

Nope.  He is #59 in the WAGR and the 4-ball won’t get him to number 1.  He is a phenomenal player.
