this place where my daughters takes lesson is a private crazy nice course. She gets to play out there some when she has lessons. Their driving range has prov1s. Not to mention their driving range is nicer than a lot of fairways she plays on.  Its stupid nice.  By far the best practice facility I've ever seen.

At our course if you're caught taking range balls you're banned for a month.

Having ProV practice balls aren’t as uncommon as you think at upscale clubs.  We have them at 6 private clubs in our area.  3 have Callaway chrome soft practice.  2 not so upscale have maxfli practice.

The staff and rest of the membership generally know which members take range balls for their personal use

The few $'s saved is not worth the years/lifetime of humiliation

who would really take them? really? I'm not a member of this club, a guest of the pro.  I think its cool that clubs invest money like that for its members. I wish the play we practice most would.

When your out of balls and don't want to drive to buy balls, those range balls are a lot more appealing. I find more practice balls lost on the course I play at then I find standard balls.

When we play high scale clubs that stamp them, we will sneak one in the bag at the range as a momento of being there.  Otherwise, I don't think they perform like a Prov1.  They make those balls play to a spec so they are not the same and I don't think the covers are as good.
