I have a trip planned for northern Michigan the end of may. If the weather looks bad I was going to try these courses out in southern Michigan. The Medalist, Blackberry Patch, Angels crossing, Stonehedge South, Yarrow, Thorneapple Creek, Heritage Glen, and Lake Michigan Hills. Ive never played any of these. Any suggestions appreciated.

I live in the Southern part of West Michigan. If you end up playing in the Southern area of Michigan, I would recommend:
Yarrow & Stonehedge South are within 10 miles of each other. Both are solid tracks that will give you all you want depending on the set of tees you plan on playing. Stonehedge North is also a very fun track. The North is set up with 6 par 3's, 6 par 4's and 6 par 5's.
I would also check out Island Hills in Centerville, Michigan and Hawk's Head in South Haven, Michigan. Both of these courses are within 30 and 45 minutes respectively from Yarrow/Stonehedge.

Milham Park...what a goat track...those greens were dead last year. My advice...Hawks Head...great track. Pilgrams Run, Tullymore (skip St. Ives...crappy layout). Over in Lansing...there is Eagle Eye. Another hidden track would be Diamond Springs in Hamilton. Angels Crossing in Vicksburg isn't bad either. Skip Stonehedge courses...the greens are SLOW...Yarrow isn't bad...but at bottom of this list. If price is an issue..you can play a track called the Links at Bowen Lake in Gowen Michigan. From the tips its a great test and you can play for $35 with cart if not cheaper during the week. But as you said its not up-north golf here in Michigan. Good luck. note: this is just my 2 cents..not trying to offend other courses. I've played almost everything around the area.

Really? That's too bad about Milham. I graduated from WMU in 06' and played Milham almost every other summer day during my time in Kalamazoo. The course was stellar then - although problems with the 4th green were frequent, they seemed to have solved it by cutting back the tree line behind the hole. The layout, regardless of conditions, reminds me of several classic northeast US courses.
By the way, could not agree more with your opinions on Diamond Springs. Wow, what an experience. Just goes to show Schumaker and DeVries really know what they're doing.
Yarrow is excellent as well but is very epic in nature. Every hole is so dramatic. They feature a Tuesday special where golf after 5 pm is $25 and beer/dogs after your round are $2.
If you get near the lake, Grand Haven Golf Club is stellar as well and has become an incredible place over the past 5 years.

I strongly second Tullymore/St Ives. In the Lansing area Eagle Eye is nice, and/but there's a Pete Dye island green.
I also like Buck's Run in Mount Pleasant (close to Tullymore/St Ives).
Not a big fan of the Medalist and haven't played the others you've mentioned.
Also, I'd think that the weather wouldn't be that much different from Northern to Southern Michigan.

Just curious when was the last time you played it?? It was a great track!! A few years back some new owners bought it..had trouble with the irrigation system and now its crap. They tore up the practice green by the club house..now its gone. They just sold the course but it needs A LOT of work. Don't waste your time with this now!!!

I've played the Medalist the last 3 years over the Memorial Day weekend, and the course is great and they always have coupons for discounted green fees on their website. Played Calderone Farms on the east side of Jackson this year and it is a links style course, except green, very nice and very reasonably priced.
