They are beautiful looking irons, but did they need to stamp "BLACK" on them. I don't no why it irks me but when manufacturers write the tech or the colour on the head I just think :dntknw:

To be fair to them FT Worth Black is also the name of the iron.  You'll be hard pressed to find any OEM iron that does not have the name stamped somewhere on the head.  The Ft Worth 15 used to be on the hosel, now it's on the head with a slightly different name. Considering the stamping is so minimal to begin with it doesn't bother me. Looks cleaner than most heads out there with the added stamping.

Try the demo program.   $20 bucks gets you a mid and short iron to try for a couple weeks and they come with a return shipping tag to send them back when you're done. You can actually hit them at a real grass range for a number of days. Best way to test.

I ordered the PTx demo clubs  2 years ago and I knew within 10 minutes of hitting them I was going to order them.  Been in the bag two years now.  Best irons I've ever played but I was very close to getting the Fort Worths.  I really like them as well.  I may seriously now consider a blended set, especially if the PTx is offered in black. 4-6 in  PTx, 7-P in Ft Worth. Maybe throw in a couple Equalizers.

i absolutely love my ptx irons.  have them for about a month now.  just great irons!   those look hot btw!

Really wish they had some other shaft options, though at this price point it's hard to really complain.

Any word if the black finish will find its way to the PTx?

Agreed, as much as I like the Tour-V, I'd really like to see an offering in the 125-132g range. The 120g Tour-V is just a touch on the lighter side for me.

You might be surprised by them.  That “depression cavity” they have actually makes them more perimeter weighted and friendly than they look.  The website says they deepened that cavity and made it a bit bigger as you progress to the longer irons. They will be even easier to hit than the original Fort Worth’s.

Something to consider as well.  They are very affordable.  Perhaps give them a shot and if you still want a little more forgiveness order up a couple PTx or even the new Edge in the 4 and 5 iron.

Im seriously thinking about doing a “utility” iron with an Edge 4 iron for my set of PTx.  Maybe bend it a degree or two strong and put in 100 gram graphite hybrid shaft.

I’m so tempted by these,  but I’ve been so happy with my PTx for two years now that the rational side of me is saying there’s no point in getting a new set.

The WRX demented club Ho side of me has one hand on my wallet ready to pry out  my credit card!!  Ugh.

I had never hit them before I bought my set.  Fully expected to change them out but I ended up loving them. I did put Sensicores in them.

If you really don’t like them you certainly can justify spending $200-300 for new shafts and reshafting because the price point is so good.

Cell parts sells the exact ferrules for them if anyone is interested. I bought a couple dozen from them. I’ve been experimenting with heavy graphite in a second identical set of PTx because I have some pretty serious arthritis starting in my hands.

Hogan really should at least offer the full KBS line since they must have an account with them.  I don’t understand why they don’t..  Previously I’m sure they couldn’t because they probably owed them a huge amount of money, but after the new infusion of cash after the BK they certainly should be able to get the full range now.

I’ve sent numerous Instagram and email messages encouraging them to expand the shaft offerings.  At some point they must, because the limited choice now  is a bit pathetic and absolutely costing them sales.

Agree with the above, it's not even that I am a shaft snob, it's just that the KBS 90 is not really feasible for a lot of people and the Tour-V is so unique.  I've tried it before and launch moon balls with no spin with it - it's quite comical actually.  Even a run of the mill KBS Tour or DG would probably get me (and others) to pull the trigger.

I demo'd the ft worths a couple years ago and had the same problem with the stock shaft offerings. Loved the look and feel of the clubs but couldn't stop the ball from ballooning too much. Wish they had some x100's or project x shafts.

I see you play S300’s.  I hit my Tour V 120x softstepped one time the same height as X100’s.....and yes, they are low spin. One of the reasons I love them.  Surprisingly good shaft for me in the wind. I actually spin them less and hit them a bit lower than modus 125x’s as well. Dearly Loved the feel of the Modus but they weren’t nearly as good a fit for me.

You can’t have tried the tour V in 120x.  It is the least “ballooning” shaft I’ve ever hit. It just doesn’t.

In the last 2 years I’ve tried these shafts in my second identical set of PTx:
recoil Prototype 125 F5
DG x100
Steelfiber 125x
Modus 125x
Modus 105x
C Taper 125 S+
Fujikura MCI 120

Tour V 120x SS1x spins less than any of them with the exception of the C Taper and oddly enough the Fuji. Just hated the feel of both of those.

I have AMT X-100’s in my 2-A wedge currently. Never hit any of the shaft offerings. I’ve had C-taper 130x and didn’t like the long irons in them (only KBS shifts I’ve hit). So more shaft options would be lovely. If I got these, I’d go with the recoil shafts in the F4 blindly :/

Nice looking... I hope you are a great ball striker. The Ft Worth irons are the lowest scoring irons ever on the MPF (Maltby Playability Factor) with a score of 90!!!! To put in perspective, typical blade MPF is somewhere between 350 and 450 and GI irons are 650+.

While I agree with the idea of the MPF rating, it is biased as Maltby sells their own clubs which top out the ratings. The Nike Vapor Pro Combos are rated extremely poorly yet are one of the most forgiving forged irons out there. So it's not 100% nor impartial, but the idea is good.

They would be better if offered with black shafts.

And not a fan of the big “Ft. Worth • Black” stamping. I can see they are black. Just keep the Ft.W on the hosel. A nice clean look would have made for a sharper looking iron.

You can’t have tried the tour V in 120x.  It is the least “ballooning” shaft I’ve ever hit. It just doesn’t.

In the last 2 years I’ve tried these shafts in my second identical set of PTx:
recoil Prototype 125 F5
DG x100
Steelfiber 125x
Modus 125x
Modus 105x
C Taper 125 S+
Fujikura MCI 120

Tour V 120x SS1x spins less and balloons less than any of them with the exception of the C Taper and oddly enough the Fuji. Just hated the feel of both of those.

I did in fact tried the tour V shaft. I currently play Project x 6.5's in my gamers. I also have c-tapers in the stiff flex (120) in a set of Hogan Apex 99's. Neither of these balloon for me. The tour V shaft just didn't fit me. I wished they would have fit me at the time because I have owned 3 sets of hogan irons and would have loved to purchase another.

I think the Cleveland Vas hold that honour

someone will have to explain this rating to me. I have looked at it and feel it is just a random number assigned to clubs and is relatively meaningless.

It is not random at all. It is based on measurements of the head and generally rewards long heel to toe clubs with lower, deeper COG. It gives a higher rating to bigger chunkier irons. It does not consider any tech inside the iron — it is a static measurement, not a dynamiic one that considers how the club will swing due to tech advancements. MPF is very old school.

I have not found it to match up to my game. The Nike VPC is one of the best I have ever played. Same with the Mizuno heads. I like clubs with an MPF in the 300’s and 400’s — which MPF says I should avoid — more than I do the ones rated at 500 or higher and supposedly easier to hit. The i200 is unbelievably easy to launch, but it is a 474 in the MPF world. Makes it hard to take it seriously.

If you are a beginner, maybe it helps find an SGI head. Otherwise, I would ignore it. MPF will not be useful guidance for a good player. If anything, its low rating of the Hogans tells me they are probably really nice clubs for my game.

well said. i200's are super easy hitting irons, vpc's have been the best iron I've ever hit, and mizuno irons have always treated me well despite poor ratings in all of them.

They will be even easier to hit than the original Fort Worth’s.

I wonder if they plan to continue to sell the original if they really believe this to be true.  I imagine there are folks that do not want a black iron, but would prefer the improved Ft Worth iron.
