Which one are you playing and why?

What is your handicap or average score?

I can't decide which one to get.  Both feel good, fly far.  I'd say TM is a little softer and longer but not by much.  Cobra has the Arccos tracking system.

Appreciate your feedback

Looked at both sets, just received my Cobra Forged Tec Blacks and would highly recommend them.

TM has (rightfully) created a lot of buzz around the P790, and they have produced a great iron.  In my opinion, the P790's feel like two different sets, 8-PW and 7 iron up.  Performance in the short irons (8-PW) felt overly soft/non responsive compared to the more powerful feel of the 7 iron and longer clubs.

Cobra is often overlooked when it comes to technology, but this set is packed with new tech.  The new finish looks incredible, performance is right there with the P790's in terms of ballspeed, and you get the bonus of the Arccos system.  One final note on Cobra.  If you are a high speed player like me, you'll also really appreciate the extensive shaft catalog (and modest upcharge) from Cobra.  I have DG X7's in my set, and that option just isn't available in every manufacturer's catalog.

I must admit, I’m kinda digging on these new black Cobras.

My Hogan PTx’s are hands down the best irons I’ve ever played, but I may buy a set of forged tec to goof around with.

Every year I try a new set or two just for kicks.  Nothing can kick the Hogans out of the bag though. I Throw darts with those bad boys.

I have had the TM P790 irons and they have a fairly low offset.  In checking the Cobra, the offset is more pronounced and for me that is a big negative.

I’m waiting on my Cobra Blacks with the $-tapers.
I not even going to try the 790’s just because of all the QC issues fromTM and the yardage gap concerns from so many.
TheCally CF-16’swere great irons and I bought into the hype with them, and I had issues with the feel from 7 to 8 irons and odd gapping.

You beat me to it.  How many human hairs is that?  ; )

Edit...I actually just looked it up to be a smart a$$.  Average human hair width across all races  is .08 mm. That means .3 mm is roughly equal to the width of 4 human hairs (.32mm).

Agreed on Apex.    If they HADNT made the 7 through long irons with that springy carpenter steel face, they might have been the best players game improvement irons ever made.

I had them for 3 months and my distance control with the mid and long irons sucked.  Way too hot.  For slightly lower swing speeds I still think they are pretty darn impressive.

hit both today even though my swing has been in shambles. my good hits w the cobras felt better to me than my good hits with the p790. the launch was considerably higher from the TM. both had the recoil ES 780 in them.

still interested in doing a full fitting with both, with same lengths and lie angles.

I don't have any extensive experience with the 790s, but I'm liking my Forged Tec Black irons.  I've had them for about a week.  No rounds yet, but multiple range trips.  The finish on them is bulletproof.

One more point: which one has the least rollout once the ball lands? In irons, control is just as important as distance.

Trackman and testing will get you down to a couple of finalists. From there, go with the one which "feels best" when you stand over the ball at address.

Ive owned both, P790s are excellent but the Forged Tec blacks completely blow them out of the water imo. Wayyyyyy more forgiving, excellent true Forged feel and much more consistent, especially with spin. To each their own but for me, the Forged Tec Blacks are too good to pass up, especially with Cobra Connect. You cant lose.

Just got mine yesterday with $-Taper Blacks in the S+.
Honestly are one of the softest irons I’ve hit.
Whatever they did with the carbon badge works very well.
Not a large head with some offset.
The shafts are better than my Modus 120’s(Never thought I’d move from the Nippon’s).
The only issue is the face of the 7-iron has spots where the DBM treating did not take. The face looks blotchy, so I am waiting on Cobra to reply to my concern.
Some how this year I have migrated to mostly cobra, except for the Cally wedges and Bettinardi putter.
I’m done Ho-ing. I will be selling everything else I have and play this bag all year.
I have hit the P790s and they do hit the ball farther, but thats the only benefit to those Irons over the Tec Blacks. Feel, consistency, looks and playability all go to the Tecs, IMHO.
38 1/2” 5-iron and all came in at D2. Never had a TM set in the last 5 years that similar.

ordered some cobra FTB today, 5-AW. Tested vs p790 with the Recoil 780 stiff in each. while the p790 may have been longer on the purest of pure strikes, I did get some funny ones that were crazy long. I only tested 7 irons but some of the talk about the 7i to 8i gap made me a little nervous. plus I preferred the looks and feel of the cobras. even thin strikes just got out there

I can't speak to the TMs, but I hit the Cobra Forged Tec Black at a demo day this past weekend. I only hit a few, but they are making me reconsider my recent Callaway purchase. I'm going to try and find a demo day again and give them a more serious look. They really stood out.

Just got mine yesterday with $-Taper Blacks in the S+.
Honestly are one of the softest irons I€™ve hit.
Whatever they did with the carbon badge works very well.
Not a large head with some offset.
The shafts are better than my Modus 120€™s(Never thought I€™d move from the Nippon€™s).
The only issue is the face of the 7-iron has spots where the DBM treating did not take. The face looks blotchy, so I am waiting on Cobra to reply to my concern.
Some how this year I have migrated to mostly cobra, except for the Cally wedges and Bettinardi putter.
I€™m done Ho-ing. I will be selling everything else I have and play this bag all year.
I have hit the P790s and they do hit the ball farther, but thats the only benefit to those Irons over the Tec Blacks. Feel, consistency, looks and playability all go to the Tecs, IMHO.
38 1/2€€ 5-iron and all came in at D2. Never had a TM set in the last 5 years that similar.

Upon inspection of my new irons, the 6 and 9 Irons have areas where the DBM coating is blotchy and white. It’s on the face of the 6 and stop edge of the 9
Iron.
One email to Canada’s Cobra rep with pics of the irons and they are sending me new replacement irons and I can play these until the replacements arrive. I sent the the email late last night and had a reply first thing this morning.
THAT customer service alone is a major reason to choose Cobra/PUMA above others.
So impressed!
Did I mention the Black $-Tapers look incredible and feel as good:-)
