Just heard from a guy in Colorado that bought a shaft from me that USPS tracking has showed delivered since Friday but he hasn’t seen his box yet. He payed with PayPal, I insured the shipment for the full amount paid. Anybody else had a situation like this? How best to proceed?

I'd contact USPS and ask what they think. How is the buyer's feedback here? Did he check with his neighbors? He might have to file a police report for USPS to pay out the insurance since it says delivered.

Oh, and just to make sure, he's not a Ducks fan right? :taunt:

Contact USPS by phone and see what they recommend you to do as far as insurance claim and what they can tell you about "supposed" delivery.  Contact PayPal and get out in front of this.  Contact buyer and see if it could've possibly been delivered to a person down the street by mistake, and give it a "FEW" more days before anyone's feelings get too hurt?

I'd be freaking out myself, but you want to make sure you're either covered by USPS Insurance or PayPal.

Yeah, buyer has 31 feedbacks and all are positive.  Nope, not a Ducks fan but I do get the reference.

He's contacted USPS but not sure where that's gone so far.

I'll point the buyer to this thread once it has some more information in it.

This happened to me before, except I was the buyer and the package showed delivered, but never showed up. It took forever to get ahold of the right person, but I was finally able to get to someone that could track by GPS where the package was left. Supposedly when the driver drops off the package, GPS notes the coordinates and address. Turns out mine was across the street at the neighbors...

Had the same thing happen to me this weekend (as a buyer). It was at a neighbor's house. If they have a community Nextdoor or Facebook page I'd tell him to make a post there seeing if anyone has it.

Seems like you're on top of things OP. Main thing (as you know already) is to maintain completely open communications.

I have a follow-up question related to one of the replies.

If his buyer files a PP claim and nets a refund is a police report still necessary? Seems like the USPS would have to also accept the print outs clearly showing a cancellation of the sale and total refund from PP because item never received.

Is this correct?

PayPal may wash their hands on this and point you to USPS for a refund. I always put the tracking on the PP transaction. I also like to text a photo of the tracking number to the buyer mostly because I’ve made mistakes when I’ve typed it into PP or a PM.

Had the same thing happen a couple of weeks ago. Delivered to the wrong address and the person there signed for it and then tried to denigh they had it. Filed claim and called local office because I was home on the scheduled delivery date. Move faster not slower with local USPS office. They can be slow but once the driver gets notice they will be written up for it things seem to move faster

Happened twice to me. The first time it was at the neighbors house.  I just went over and got it.  The second time, I was home and got the del con.  I went outside and nothing.  Waiting until the mailman drove back up the street and stopped him, he had it on his truck still.  Weak!

I have had many things delivered to my office and every time they have just left it outside our suite door inside our building. They never even rang our doorbell. I only found out it was delivered if I was checking tracking every 5 min or a co-worker saw it in the hallway and brought it in to me.

Had this happen to me beforehand as a buyer. Called the local post office, emailed them, and even left a note for the mailman. Basically USPS told me to pound sand and if it showed delivered then it was delivered. I still have never seen the package to this day.

When our regular mailman was on vacation, another sub delivered our mail constantly to some other place & we didn’t even have this guy show up to deliver ours nor anyone else’s.

Tracking kept showing “business closed”, or “inclement weather”.
The weather was perfect & nor was the business closed, so I was thinking this mail guy is playing a hoax.

Anyway, once our regular mailman came back in 2 weeks, I got all our mails back.  (Or at least I’d like to think I got all of it)
Even he was like, the other guy had no F’in clue as to what he was doing.

Oh yeah, I called the local post office trying to complain about not getting mails during business hours, but like they cared.

Start with the mail carrier, they usually remember if they have to deliver an oversized box, and as mentioned before they have ways of telling when/where they delivered the item vs when they were at the building to determine any potential discrepancy.

Best of luck, I had the same thing previously where for some reason the carrier delivered an item a full block away. Fortunately somebody noticed it and brought it to me, otherwise I'd have never found it. Buyer might want to knock on some doors nearby and ask if they received a long box in error.

That's good to hear. Nice to hear a good ending.

I've had packages show up a day or two after they show delivered by USPS, I would give it a day but definitely call and ask about it.
Here's another story showing the wonderful customer service of the USPS.  I ordered something fairly valuable a few years ago, it required signature on delivery, the day it was supposed to be delivered I stayed home so I could sign for it.  I never got a knock or door bell ring all day, the tracking updated to say nobody available for signature.  I was not happy, turns out our mailman was too lazy to walk up the driveway and get a signature, they always marked packages that way to avoid any extra work.  We end up having to go to the post office and sign to get our packages, pretty ridiculous!

I like when these threads end on a happy note every now and then!

Sucks though that USPS is so sh*tty in their tracking system, and it's been that way for a long time now.  Now they are really pushing everyone to sign up for this new "Informed Delivery" crap that supposedly will email/text you of what has been delivered to your mailbox, but if they can't even get actual packages with PAID tracking correct, why on Earth would anyone sign up for this?

When I have golf items shipped to work, they always drop it off a day after it shows delivered. Once, they showed it delivered to work on a Saturday when no one was there. In a panic, I drove over to make sure it wasn't sitting in front of the office. I had to go to the post office 2 business days later where they found it sitting in the back. I no longer have anything sent there unless I know it's shipping via FedEx or UPS.

The post office has a service called informed delivery. It shows you pictures of the mail that will be delivered to your house that day and what has been delivered in previous days.
Go to usps.gov, look under quick tools, it’s free

This happens quite often. It's not just USPS but Fedex and UPS as well.

Iíve had 2 club boxes and my swingweight scale delivered to the house down the street. Same house all 3 times. I saw it on their porch the first time, had to go ask the 2nd time, and new owners brought it to me the 3rd time. All FedEx.

Itís definitely a sinking feeling when tracking shows delivered and you have no package at your door!

A good ending with two reasonable people involved.  Good news.
