When I put my hands on the putter in a reverse overlap grip, the handle runs directly through the lifeline of my left hand (as per common instruction.) I try to match both thumbs running directly down the center of the grip but when I do this with the right hand I feel as if the left thumb is more in the life line of my right hand, not the actual putter grip. The only way I can get the actual grip in the life line of my right hand is if I slide my hand more down the grip, creating separation between my hands.

Which way is going to be more stable? The closer hands feels more solid and the hands apart squares up my hands to target a bit more?
