Another course review from a recent trip to the Pinehurst/Southern Pines, NC area - Whispering Pines CC (East) in Whispering Pines, NC. 7,094 yards from the tips (73.9/132), we played up one set at 6,409.

All reviews are subjective, of course, but I was a little disappointed. After reading (in Triangle Golf Today) an article about how this course has been revitalized, I was surprised by how poorly conditioned it was. The greens were okay, fairway and rough not real good, cart paths chewed up or sand. Maybe that's intentional - I have no idea - but I wasn't a fan. CCWP is an Ellis Maples design, and I've enjoyed playing a couple of his courses. This one wasn't terribly interesting. This may not mean anything to most of you, but my impression was that it was a mediocre knockoff of Pinehurst #1.

I found nothing memorable about the experience. It was OK and nothing more.
