What kind of screwed up pro shop required you to give them your old clubs at the time you placed the order?

I wouldn’t consider that for a tenth of a second. They get my old ones after the new ones arrive and are checked for specs. Bad business on their part.

But beyond that, the supply problems with the 790 has been shockingly bad. Good luck.

Did the proshop at least set you up with a set of irons to use in the meantime?

I know the thread is about TM (and rightfully so), but I couldn’t imagine being without clubs that long.

I hope the OP realizes that his 7 iron really is a 6 iron. So technically speaking he has a 6 iron all along.

too late.

They have to realize where we live we have April - Nov and really only 5 solid golf months.  By the time you get your clubs season is already in full swing. Now you need to learn your distances, .....

Now a days with the technology we have nothing should ever be on back order.

You might consider cancelling the order and placing it through Discount Dans.  Same specs, they'll save you 20%, no taxes, free shipping and they'll take care of you.  Ask for Todd.

I really fail to grasp how discount dan's makes any money at all.  They are well known to undercut everyone, they somehow have stock on literally anything you want, custom or not, and turn it around in record time.  If TM is backordered for at least another month, but I want P790s with Modus120, how do I get them in a week?  DD somehow does it, or at least their followers claim they can.  Either the success stories are inflated, or some group/guy is losing his shirt reshafting stock sets to custom spec and then just getting the special orders in at some point to their area and then ripping them back apart and putting the stuff into inventory.  Seems like a nightmare to me.

I think Discount Dan's is either a secretive collaborative process between all the OEMs to cut out the middle man (i.e. GG, PGASS, Proshops) or there is some sort of golf Jesus that can turn the junkiest of trade-in clubs magically into anything you want.  I've heard stories of discount dan's doing stuff that the biggest TM account in North America (Golf Town in Canada) can't do.  It's mind boggling how they get away with this stuff, and so fast, while seemingly being an "unknown", small website.

Ive ordered from them many many times.

1. They have no overhead.  It's a small pro shop.

2. All orders are direct ship.  All they do is punch in your specs, take your money and titleist / taylor made / cobra, the other OEMs to the rest.

3. They don't have to pay the cost of maintaining huge big box stores, pay for simulator software, pay for employees, pay for huge property tax bills, ....

4. They have the same access as GT in my experience.  I tried to order a M4 with a certain shaft and GT said the shaft was on back order 6 weeks or so.  Called DD and same answer.  Brother ordered mizuno irons from DD and I did from GT - both sets came from Atlanta and both shipped at the same time.

5.  All their service / problems are directed back to OEMS.  They do nothing at the shop.  Had to incorrect AP2 orders (one the grips were logo down I asked for logo up) and one had the wrong shaft all together.  Both times I was told call the OEM sorry not sorry.

6. Turn around time in my experience has been the Same as GT.  They offer rush shipping from the manufacturer but you pay for it.

I mean if GT pays 1000 for a set of AP2 from titleist and so does DD they can easily sell for 10-20% less due to all these reasons.

Honestly though DD prices in the past year have pretty much caught up to the other OEM.  They are still a tad cheaper but not by much.

Thanks for clarifying.  So it seems like these miracles I hear about aren't so magical after all, they just go to bat for their customers.  Seems like a great idea, offer everything, take the money, but don't actually have to deal with any of the headaches.  Sounds like a dream to me!

that's correct.  I mean I could get some OEM accounts and do the same thing.  Years ago they lost Ping because they were selling under MAP and Ping pulled them.  they finally have them back after years but are actually pretty strict about following guidelines.

Im not knocking DD I've probably ordered 50K from them maybe more but they aren't the magic people claim them to be.  Having multiple business i've learned to destain stores like that because a couple of my businesses have suffered from similar online stores.

To be fair to Taylormade, i've bought precisely *one* custom ordered club in my life and it came right on time as promised. (M4 5 wood). I don't doubt the OEM's are shysters, but there are good experiences that have been had too.

I order from discount dans for nearly everything and some of this isn't true. I recently ordered custom set of p730 irons over a month ago, they got hit with the same back order that everyone else did. My order was delayed from the original shipping estimation by a month and I won't get my 9 iron until May.

All orders are not direct ship to your house. For custom club orders they go from the oem directly to discount dans and then to you. This has happened with all clubs I have ordered except for non club stuff like a golf bag.

I have no issues using discount dans and enjoy them but wanted to clarify some things

depends where you live.  Titleist, and Mizuno are drop ship 100%.

If you live in canada they can't drop ship.  They ship to DD then they ship from there.
