As much as I like to tinker, if I am honest there are really only three equipment changes I have made in the last 10-15 years that made a significant difference in my game. How about you? Here are mine:

1. Replaced my 4 iron with a hybrid.
2. Replaced my blade putter with a belly putter, and now a mallet.
3. Added a 60 degree wedge.

I believe those changes helped me get better, or stay better longer as I age.

A practice net, mat, phone camera and YouTube. Those are the only things I can honestly say helped shave strokes. And I have three sets of irons, three drivers with five different shafts, three putters and five wedges.

Spider tour black putter helped my putting.

Chipping with a 54 (because of gapping) has helped.

Playing a srixon XV

I feel like those shaved a few strokes.  Nothing major but enough for me to keep t going

Getting properly fit. Not obsessing about too many swing thoughts. Making "my swing" work instead of trying to follow the latest tip or mimic some move seen on Golf Channel.

Epic Sub Zero fairway wood.

Not that I think that it's the be all end all of fairway woods, but it definitely gave me a ton of confidence. I can hit others way better than I have before.

Also, bent my 54 and 58 wedges a little flatter. Really helped with my finesse shots around the greens.

Not sure if this counts, but I started using a push cart 3 years ago.  My friends gave me a little crap because I was still in my 20s.  Almost everyone in our group as them now.  Easily the best piece of golf equipment I've ever purchased.

As for a club, a putter that actually fits you is a lifesaver.  I'm talking correct length, lie, head-shape, and grip.  I got my Betti custom ordered for my specs and it has helped immensely.

Getting properly fit was the single largest step function in improving my game.

Equipment wise, it was:
1. replacing my 3i and 4i with a hybrid - much better ball flight, hitting more greens, etc
2. using that extra slot to go 52/56/60 with wedges rather than 52/58 - more options from 100 yards and in, as well as around the green
3. moving back to a traditional pistol grip on the putter from the bulky superstroke ones - much better feel from the face, better lag putting, moving from technical to more feel-based putting on faster greens with lots of contours

Taylormade M series drivers. I always fought spin with the driver and until 2016 I could just about back up a driver in the fairway. The 2016 M1 changed that overnight.
For me, the Ms are the only drivers I've found in many years that spin low enough to get significant roll out. As a short knocker, being 20 yards closer to every green is HUGE.

Putter changes are about the only clubs that seem to help me immediately. I went back to a Titleist Bullseye from a Ping. Center shaft made the difference. Done others and voila magic. Trouble though it doesn’t last.
Livin' proof that Lefties are not naturally talented.

In order of the most beneficial:

1) Switched from 2-ball to blade putter. Struggled to make 1/10 putts inside 10 feet but with the blade I'll hole at least half of them. On longer putts as well the feel of the blade is more responsive so I'm confident that I'll two putt at worst from anywhere on the green. This was a big stroke saver for me and the putter is the one club I will NOT change until it breaks. Yes it's psychological but once the holed a few with the blade I feel even now as if I'm going to hole it and by going from multiple 3 putts per round to 1 at worst helped me slash my HCP within 18 months of taking up the game.

2) Heavier shaft in my 3 wood. Put the HZRDUS Yellow 65g X in and it lowered my trajectory considerably and due to face catching up quicker at impact added 13 yards carry and a lot more on roll out on average.

3) Gone from standard 10.5 to 9.25 in my driver head. Again lowered trajectory and added carry.

The common theme throughout all of the above for me is confidence. Yes the changes made something of a noticeable difference but from seeing and feeling results it gave me confidence and I think  that is the biggest thing. I approach my rounds thinking I can hot driver a certain distance, keeping it in fairway, for longer par 5s I can go all out with the heavier shaft 3 wood and not have to worry about the club whipping and adding height or going offline and the putter...if you think you're going to hole it feels like you'll make many more than you'll miss.

So maybe the biggest equipment change is changing my brain from the "doom & gloom" setting to "can do" setting.

The only single piece of equipment that has saved me strokes is my Clic Gear push cart. As I got older I started noticing that by 14 or 15 I would be so tired that it would cost me at least 2-3 shots coming in. Once I bought the push cart, my back has felt so much better and the scores went back down.

1. Two books transformed my game.  One obscure, one not so obscure.

https://www.amazon.c...ong drive bible

https://www.amazon.c...ents of scoring

If you can bash it a really long way in play and you can score chances are you can be decent at golf.  The two best books I've ever read and the most important.  I've built my game off what is in these two books, basically.

2. Putter fitting.  I went to Edel, but I'm sure any work.  7* flat of standard, custom aiming aid, 375 grams, 33".  Its as close to buying game as I've ever seen.

3. Grew a beard, neatly trimmed, with short hair.  Oostheizen, Walker, etc....  Huge part of getting to low single digit.  Almost a rule.

64* Callaway PM grind changed my short game, and by extension, my iron game.  It’s a lot easier to take a confidant swing with an iron when you know you can get up and down.

Weirdly enough, buying an EZ-GO cart may have made the biggest difference.  Clubs are always on the back and it’s encouraged me to practice way more than I have in years.
