My wife and I were going over finances and we decided to figure out how much I spent on golf last year. Golf trips, rounds of golf, balls and equipment (-clubs, new shafts...etc.) , clothes. Pretty much anything golf related. I don't know what I was expecting but, it was just a shade under 10,000$ . I was a little surprised at the amount considering I play about 1/3 as many rounds now that I have a two year old! I would imagine that I am middle of the pack as some will have spent less and some higher amounts

I try to keep it at 50 dollars a week in season maximum. So thatís 18 on Sunday and either two range sessions or one range session and 9 holes.

I buy all my balls and tees in ridiculous bulk at the start of the year so she doesnít see how much that stuff costs!

Between memberships, balls, clubs, golf trips, tournaments, travel for those tournaments, guest fees at those clubs, clothes, gambling with the guys on course etc. I have no desire to do the math. I know it's north of $10k but beyond that, no idea.

just paid my CC annual--$3482--unlimited golf (18 hole well maintained), includes storage for personal cart and trail fees.  In a normal year I will play from March thru mid-November, usually five days a week and some late Saturday afternoons.  I usually play over a 100 rounds a year.  My wife also plays probably 50 rounds (varies with the health of her back).  That is my largest expense--maybe a couple of hundred a year for equipment and gas for cart.  Maybe a thousand a year for play on other courses including cost of travel.  I would imagine on the average year my golf cost us between 5-6k a year.
Not bad since I used to be a competitive trap shooter and would burn that much in travel, fees, shells, equipment in the first couple of months of shooting a year.

When I was younger I used to tournament fish with my brother. I can understand that! Trailering a boat up and down the east coast. Entry fees, the fuel bills! I don't feel as bad now!

I’m not a member anywhere anymore, so I budget about $2,500 a year for golf. I play about 25-30 rounds a year and at just below an avg of $100/round it works out leaving me extra for practicing, balls, and incidentals. I don’t buy much equipment as you can see by my signature, but any club purchaes, while rare are extra.

Golf doesn’t have to be expensive, and I’ve certainly spent considerably north of that in the past.

My season pass costs me around $1100 including the cart.  Play about 100 rounds in roughly 7 months.  Add in a couple of golf trips and we're looking at around 2k.

Usually less than $2k. I play 25-30 rounds a year at an average price of $30. I might replace one thing in my bag a year and that is usually through a trade-in plus ~$50-100. Apparel is usually under $200 as I get most of it as gifts around Christmas/Birthday. I take one golf trip a year and keep it under $500. I also have a membership at a golf practice facility for $55/month. I couldn't imagine spending over $10k unless I had a membership at a nice club.

I've been cutting down on expenses.

Always but clothing, balls, etc. at discounted prices.

Made friends at the local courses, allowing for discounted or free rounds. :)

One I think this changes when you are a member at a private club. (More than "golf" expenses come with being part of a club)

Also, equipment does not have to always be paid for at full retail....hang around this game long enough, and you will figure out how to make it happen financially. Should never put a price tag on good times, especially if you truly love it.

Other hobbies/sports aren't all cheap (boats, traveling, horses, some much more expensive)....I like racing cars as well, need a 55-gallon drum of e85 fuel for next weekend...will figure it out, life's to short

I've several friends who are CC members when they tell me of non golf expenses, I cringe at food bills etc..
When my brother and I fished we'd always fill at a normal gas station. Filling at the marina was usually 1$ more per gallon.
Is E85 the modern equivalent of Cam2? I remember we had a station near my hometown that carried it. It was like 4$ a gallon in the 1980"s
Holy crap I just looked it up 350$ a drum!

Of course the food bills and "others" change from club to club, but that was always something I factored in when joining a club as part of the membership. One club I belong to has no minimums, the other has a very small amount and is typically something I can cover just by being there for dinner with the girlfriend and drinks after a round a few times a month.

E85 isn't the same as Cam2 and is basically just high ethanol road fuel that your flex fuel cars can use without issue. I use it in a few of my turbo cars for a little higher knock resistance but when it's time to actually go fast, it's MS109 and crank the boost to new, fun levels. On one car I can get another 20% or so with the current setup with race fuel.

There is the "official" spending, well documented and receipt, down to the penny.

And there is the "unofficial" ho ho hoing...

The latter is way, way more than the former :ninja:

I joke that if I didn't play golf, I'd live in a bigger house, but in reality my expenses aren't extreme. I live up north and essentially don't play for 3-4 months, so that saves cash. And the courses aren't expensive where I live. I don't need the latest and greatest equipment every year (I'll probably be buried with my TaylorMade RBZ driver), and I never pay full retail for anything else (thanks eBay).

And this winter I made a point of selling enough stuff to pay for some golf league expenses.

I'd guesstimate $200-250/month if you don't include clothes. I wear Cool 18 slacks and golf polos for work, so I only consider golf hats/shoes as golf expenses. I also don't usually buy food during the round, but I don't include pre or post-golf meals as golf expenses.

Monthly:
4 rounds between $25-40 (average around $30)
2 medium range balls after work $8 ea
2 9-hole rounds after work $15 ea
1 dozen balls/month: used/recycled Q-star about $10 or Maxfli U6 $15 on sale
Tees, towels, glove, other random junk: $10

That's a shade under $200. In a month where I buy a used club or some shafts/grips, I'd easily push $250 or possibly $300. Overall I'm somewhere around $3k/yr, but if someone wants to sponsor me I could easily double or triple that number.
