Thanks again for your responses.

11 YO - Been playing since last June.

PING 812 - 170 -180 yards.
TS3 irons - 5 iron 120-130 yards.

Huge distance gap obviously.

What should we do to fill the gap?

Which hybrid do you recommend?

We could go fairway metal also but I feel a lot better about consistency with a hybrid.

Thanks again!

The Ping G812 driver is 15 degree loft (I believe). Not sure what the loft is on the TS3 5-iron. Find out from USKG what that is. Then look for the fairway or hybrid that has a loft in between those (possibly an adjustable loft fairway or hybrid would be in order).

Older generation Great Big Bertha Heavenwood with a Flynn shaft. Adjustable, can hit out of any lie, easy to launch, great off the tee, teach him how to adjust distances with this club. Treat it like a long wedge. From the fairway with a clean strike and it will roll out almost as far as the driver. Hit it easier, or from some rough and it will edge out the 5i,  more importantly it will get height that they just won’t get with the 5i. If I was looking for 1 club to fill that large of a gap, that would be it,

You can get a Cobra Biocell Women's head in either 3/4 or 4/5 adjustable brand new on eBay for $25. Couple it with a Flynn shaft and you have a bulletproof combo for less than $90 with a proper shaft. My son LOVES his.

I am glad mine doesn't use a hybrid anymore.  Was always the hardest club to find in the bag for him.  He uses 3i/5W.

Mine could not hit the USKids Tour one but I could not pry that BioCell out of his bag now if I wanted to.

Mine has been out of US Kids metal woods for 2-3 years I think.  He just can't hit a hybrid.  Hooks the mess out of them.  He likes being known as the kid that hits a 3i.  I wish I could force him to put the 5W into his bag more often.

Mine is 8 and we just made the switch to the driver, 3W, and 4H OEM head/Flynn shaft combo. It has made a WORLD of difference.

Looking for a 5h (something in the 28° range) for my 8YO.  Got a women’s cobra baffler Flynn shaft, but is still a bit heavy.  Lighter options?

What do you use for the 4H? At that age we went 6i then 4H. I taught my son how to hit a soft 4H to bridge the gap. He didn't need a club with every number to have 5-6 yard gaps.

Uses the US Kids TS 4H.  Doesn’t hit his 5i well, so have about a 12 yard gap between the 4H and 6i.

If you looking to fill a gap with in the long clubs chances are it's not usually worth it. most tournaments are shorter and if there really long that means there playing courses too long. Thats okay but you just have to accept that fact and there score is simply going to be higher score when playing that yardage because of the need for an extra shot or two.

Sometimes that being said you need to get club in the bag that helps. Look for an adjustable hybrid and play around with the lofts.
