I have a set of 680ís, 681Tís and 716ís and as far as all around irons go I think the 716MB are the best of the bunch.

Actually I think the 681 is a slightly softer feeling 681Tó they made them in limited release with S400ís and a slightly more durable finish because the 681 were so soft and used to get beat up easily.

Personally I like chrome finish irons as supposed to satinó but money aside the best set of Titleist MB are the 716ís in my opinion.  Theyíre 2-3 times as forgiving as the 681 and feel just as good in my opinion without giving up much in the way of shot-making for someone of my skill level.

I do think the nostalgia of hitting those handful of flushed shots per round back when with a set of 680 or 681 was memorable but not really any better than whatís currently out thereó we just remember it differently.

Hope not as the MP100 were the most extreme example of Mizunoís no scrap head policy. My set had 1 gram to 13 gram tip weights throughout the set. They were unplayable. When I complained to the rep. his response shocked me saying those were intended as a non playing commemorative set for display only. According to him they only made enough heads to complete the X of XXX and no extras for head weight selection..Discovered it when I went from dynamic gold to rifle shafts, no commercial tip weight existed that was heavier to replace the 13 gram weights. The other giveaway was the SW varied from D0 to D4 throughout the set, so even with the extreme variation in use of tip weights they couldnít produce a playable set, just a set to hang on the wall..

the 681 and 681t's were released at basically the same time, just different amounts of each.

the ones you mentioned in the cherry wood box were i believe 1 of 50, and had the full list of all the tournaments tiger had won done by year, they were released just as he switched to the nike blades.

if you really go way back, all the way to 1997, titleist japan released a 1/500 set of tigers irons, with a red t and the number of the set of 500. and best of all they were done by miura....

you can see the 1/50 from fairwaygolf usa here;

http://www.golfwrx.c.../#entry14742606

Had a chance to buy a used set of those in here last year.  I passed and regretted it ever since.  If there still out there pm me !  Lol 😝

I think this is worse since they released the defects where the offsets were way outside of tolerance

so i finally got mine, and they do look gorgeous. pretty enough that i'm debating keeping them, even though i'm becoming quite fond of the MP4s. curious if there's anyone else out there that is actually going to play them and what your thoughts are? all of the ones i've seen for sale have been S300/S400, so far I'm the only guy with X100s, which might be appealing to the right person, and bring a good price.

compared to my 714s, the 680s have a longer blade length, narrower neck, and higher toe. toe is also more squared off. the appealing part of the design is the muscle extends WAY up, even higher than the MP4s, which should raise COG and flight the ball down.

So 50 sets of these were released in GB & I yesterday morning, managed to get a set through a close friend who has the 3rd biggest Titleist account in Britain. My set is secured, we can spec it at a later date, probably as soon as Monday. Going to go Project X 6.0 rifles and new decade Multicompound black.

Going to keep them wrapped until Iím a category 1. Was going to keep them until I get to 3-4 but may never get that low ha ha.

Damn beautiful.

Is it the angle of the pic, or do they have more offset than the 718 AP2's? Lastly are they constant or progressive offset?

I really love the look of these and the very high muscle back looks awesome.

Decades ago I used to be a stickler for the head weight thing, but at one point I bought a set of J-market Mizuno MS203 irons.  Those irons were made to a bit of an unusual spec, 2x SS x100 sensicore, D-5 swingweight.  They were the best dang irons I ever had and I wore them out.  I bought a second set and set about moving the shafts and in the process found tip weights of varying amounts from 5 to 12 grams in each head.  Every single iron in that set was solid and felt right on the button.  Since that time I've never worried a whit about 4, 8 or 12 grams of weight in the hosel of an iron shaft.  The five iron had a 12 gram tip weight in it.

Kind of odd that Miura and Epon place such premium on consistent head weights as tour pros do. Every Mizuno iron set it was easy to pick the irons with the heavier tip weights after a few balls. Most of the sets when I wanted to go to a lighter shaft a club builder I used wouldnít do it because he couldnít get heavy enough tip weights to make the odd heads a useable swingweight (think C8 for some with others at D2 using available tip weights)..was playing to a +3 in those days, but now days probably couldnít tell the difference. Still find it interesting though if head weights are so irrelevant, why would a set of TN-87 Mizunos I got from the Australasian tour be perfect..could put any shaft you wanted in them with the same value tip weight throughout the set..
