This year I am committing to playing 8 clubs. I'm hoping to get more creativity and feel from this as my golf had become a bit stale for me. I have a stable of about 14/15 clubs but will only play 8 clubs at a time.
In the bag to start this little experiment is
Big Bertha alpha playing 43 inch
Big Bertha alpha 815 fairway playing 41.5 inch set at 17*
Mizuno MP Fli Hi 24*
Mizuno MP 57 6+8 irons
Mizuno MP 60 PW
Frozen Rope 56*
Odyssey #7 metal X mid belly putter cut down to 34 inch ( I prefer the heavier head without slapping loads of lead tape on the bottom)
Sometimes I'll swap clubs out like replace the 4 iron with a hybrid or replace the #7 putter with a yes Callie f putter. Sometimes I'll play the odd number irons and replace the PW with a 50 degree wedge.
I'll be interested in seeing how it goes and if it doesn't work I'll go back up to 12/13 clubs I used to carry.

I'm curious to know how many rounds it took people playing less clubs to get used to having fewer options. I've only had 1 round so far and I was a little off with my short game but don't know how much of it was down to having 1 wedge or having not played in 10 weeks. I tend to practice my short game a lot whilst out walking the dog so hopefully the frozen rope wedge will shine through when I'm not so rusty ( I really hope so as it's such a beautiful wedge but it's always going to be under pressure from my old trusty rusty wedge)

It really didn't take me anytime at all. The only adjustment I had to make was to occasionally hit a club 3/4 or what have you.

I seemed to do fine with my irons I was just a bit wayward with my 56 wedge. I'm not too worried about it as the course I was playing is a little 9 hole place that's perfect for beginners ( was helping a work colleague who was having their first round out on a golf course) but has tiny tiny greens.

Cheers. Really enjoying it. There will be a few tweaks to the bag as I can already hear my trusty 913d2, 913hd and scotty red X putter calling to be put back in the bag but the 8 clubs are here to stay. Carried a full bag on my last round and my back was killing me when I finished.

Good luck with the experiment, it can take some time to get the combination just right.  I can say with 99% certainly I'll never play the game again with 14 clubs.

Yep setup has changed. Local course I play the most is quite challenging so I've done quite a lot of experimenting and settled on a 10 club bag
Titleist 913D2 10.5*
Titleist 913hd 18*
Mizuno MP H5 4+6 irons
Mizuno MP 57 7,8 and 9 irons
Yururi 49* wedge
Frozen Rope 56* wedge
Odyssey #7 or Yes Callie F putter
I've gone for the 4 and 6 of the h5s the stretch out the loft gaps at that end of the bag so the gap between 7 and 6 irons is now 5* and the gap between 6 and 4 irons is 6*. Tried this as my yardage gaps start to bunch a bit too much for my liking after my 7 iron so I guess I'm essentially playing my 4 iron as a strong lofted 5 iron.
