Toward the end of last season I noticed a crack on the top of my M1 club head. I finally got around to calling TM this past week regarding the crack (see the picture attached, it is kind of difficult to see). The guy I talked to was extremely helpful. I told him upfront that I did not have a receipt but I was a pretty decent golfer. Told him my handicap so he knew this crack wasn't due to faulty swing or anything. He then requested that I email him pictures of the club. He got back within 2 days of originally talking with him and said that this was a major problem in the 2016 M1s first launch. He told me that they would check the 2017 M1 inventory and if no luck, they would send me a new M3 as a replacement. Needless to say, he emailed me 2 days ago saying that a new M3 replacement was on its way.

I am solely writing this post to applaud the customer service of the TaylorMade team and also for anyone else who has this on their driver. Feel free to contact me with questions or comments.

I've noticed that on mine but didnt think anything of it. I'll have to give them a call. I cracked the face on 2 previous 2016 M1 430cc heads from pounding so many range balls, and I would agree that their service is great. Local pro at my country club called his rep both times and had a new head within a week or so

Jeez.  I just took a look at mine and I have the exact same line.  I guess I should give TaylorMade a call and see what they can do.

I also don't have a receipt so hope they don't mind.

Had the same exact experience with TM/my local retailer. Brought the head in a few weeks ago and they called the retailer back that day letting them know they’d be sending an M3 as replacement.

Never had anything but an exceptional experience with TM customer service. Customer for life.

Just got off the phone with TaylorMade and they would only offer me the 2017 M1 as a replacement.

I asked her if I could have the M3 and it was a no go.  Oh well, I tried and I didn't need to send any pics of my old driver with the crack.

How are you guys finding the crack , just by seeing it or do you notice a performace issue first.

Also did not know there were issues with cracked faces on the M1 430 head .

Have to check mine out then I guess .

Just seeing it. Very noticeable at address which is bothersome. Depending on the way the light is shining on it also affects how visible the crack is. You can actually feel it if you rub over it as well. The crack has not made any difference in performance of the club which is why I am shocked that they are even sending me a new one because I told them this over the phone.

I had the same issue, they replaced mine free of charge, no receipt.  Just had me take it to a authorized seller and took care of it.

First one had a bump where the white/black meet.  Second had a small crack.  Third was sold and I went back to Titleist.  Seemed to me to be a design flaw.

My first 2016 M1 had a similar issue. TM customer support is awesome, just give them a call and they'll make it right.

They mailed a new one and then I sent the old one back in the same box with a shipping label they provided, so no down time.

This is a problem with the 2016 M1's. The guy mentioned that it was a common defect in their first run of these. As mentioned above, there is no down time. I called and they asked me to send in pictures, which I emailed. Got back with me in 2 days and said they confirmed it was the common defect. They would check the 2017 M1 inventory first and if none in stock, would send me an M3. Took about a full week for all of this to happen. They accidentally sent me an M4, which I emailed the guy after receiving and indicated I was supposed to get an M3 and he overnighted me an M3 driver head. TM customer service is unbelievable.

Probably worth noting that taking advantage of systems like this is what causes customer service to deteriorate...

yeah, i acytually never even called before because i never expected them to go above and beyond to make it right. I figured it was heavy range ball usage and was going to write it off as cost of doing business and just grab a new one soon enough.

I've had this same crack for a while and didnt think anything of it. Glad to know its actually a defect.  Maybe thats why all my tee shots suck?  :)

UPDATE:  Within three hours of reporting this to Patrick at TM, I have a 2017 M1 coming as a replacement.  He indicated that this crack is a sign the club is "starting to go"  I can't imagine what the end result is!  Yikes...

I noticed my 2016 M2 had what i was told is called the "Weld line of death" as this is the weld line coming thru. I took it to my local shop they snapped some photos sent them to TM. Next day i get a call to bring in my driver head as they are going to replace it. They said it was not the worst as i didn't notice any performance loss but once it shows up its only a matter of time before it gets worse and the head will fail. Fortunately for me they stopped stocking the 2017 M2 here in Australia and are replacing my 2016 M2 with a new M4. Strange though is my M2 was 10.5 loft and they are giving me a 9.5, I have read that the M4 is launching higher so im sure i wont notice much of a difference. I hope the M4 is everything my 2016 M2 was as i loved that driver head especially paired with my  ADDI 7S.
Cant thank TM enough for the great customer service and warranty,

Is this thread useful for those rare folks that have an issue with their driver, or is everyone who owns a 2016 TaylorMade M series driver running to their bag to find a crack so they can line up to get a new driver for nothing from TM? When people take advantage of or try to game the system, is when threads start popping up here with titles like “TaylorMade customer service sucks!” because they wouldn’t replace your driver with “a tiny hairline crack” with the latest version, no questions asked.

I have a 2016 M2, and I hope to God it never develops this crack people are describing. Because there isn’t a new driver they could send me that could replace it.

I by no means was playing the system. I honestly did not think there was a shot in hell that I would get a replacement club. I simply called thinking that there was about a 5% chance I would. The club worked fine but standing over a tee shot at address, it was very bothersome. I am sure it would not bother some people but as you know, several golfers are particular. Not much in golf bothers me but for some reason I noticed everytime I was over the ball. I wrote this post to applaud the customer service. Not for the purpose of others to go and check and abuse the system. As you indicated, I hope everyone is not doing this.

I’m not referring to you, clearly there’s an issue with yours. I’m referring to the parade of people that just so happened to find something wrong with theirs after your post proclaimed that TM was handing out new drivers for 2016 models that have cracks.

*edit - here’s a good example: http://www.golfwrx.c.../#entry17131396 “they would only offer me the 2017 M1 as a replacement.”

I have a 1995 Bubble Burner Titanium in the closet, just for kicks I took it out to look at it. I noticed a small chip in the copper paint, but no crack. Do you think I can score a new wedge or something??  Edit for timeline sake... they weren't made in 2000 =)

Pics of mine and a friend’s M1s. Just called and they were great. 2 M4s on the way. Solid customer service.
